Hi all, I'm moving from TX to NC and am trying to tow a 5x8 trailer. However my truck did not come with a tow hitch and I have a Daytona which stupidly covered up the hitch area with a ground effects piece of bumper. I've had several people including UHaul tell me it's ok to tow with just the bumper. Like i said i'm trying to tow a 5x8 trailer w/ maybe 400lbs max of stuff inside. if that even. Will this be safe?

Confused

I have seen many bumpers get bent down from the "400" weight. This weight might look ok but slapping front to rear and side to side may not work out. What is the weight of the trailer ? What is the tounge weight loaded ??? Check with your owners manule.

You'll have no problems towing that trailer with the bumper!!! It is rated at 500lbs tounge weight and 5000lbs towing you just cannot control the ride height of the trailer!! thumb2

If you buy the Mopar Receiver Hitch it will install and work w/ your Daytona Rear ground effect. Basically you remove the ground effect, install the hitch, and put the ground effect back on. The towing package was optional on the Daytona and Rumble Bee models.

They run about 105.00 shipped if you need it. We're in TX as well, so delivery time would only be 1-2 days.

my Sport model did not come with reciever hitch either... installed one the next weekend. Easy as pie.

FYI, 4 bolts total. Two bolts will bolt to the bottom of the bumper (outside two ball holes). Then the back of the receiver hitch bolts to the 3" cross-tube. thumb2

Thanks for the responses everyone. The move went great. No problems towing at all. However it didn't seem to matter how organized i was when packing it up. All my stuff ended up topsy-turvy and tossed around which made me mad because I had a drumset in there and 2 of the drums got scratched Frowner And even though I packed the heavier stuff up front (like you're supposed to) it all ended up sliding to the back ah well. Now I need to go introduce myself at the NC forums...
