I have about a 95% certainty that I am royaly getting screwed. I don't want to name names, places, or businesses in case someone (doubtfully) works around or near there while he still has the truck.

Here's the details.

I bought a Borla (40670) SI/DO because he didnt have it or want to order it.

I had it shipped to him.

He got the muffler yesterday and the truck today.

The truck won't be done until Friday.

He is going to charge me 250 bucks. That's TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS AND NO/100!!!!!!

Nothing special about the setup. Probably 7-8 feet of 2 1/4" pipe. Exit behind the rear tire... standard.

There are no other shops within 100 miles of this bfe shop, so I'm stuck.

Am I crazy, or is this just a little overpriced? I never thought a borla muffler would be cheaper than the install.

Venting over.

Travis... out.

It's a little late since you've already left the truck with him but ask him to justify his cost.

I just hope the shop owner's name isn't John Holmes.

It would have been worth the drive and days wasted to go to another shop. That install should cost no more than $100, and $75 would be more like it.

Maybe he'll at least buy you dinner or blow you a kiss afterward.

That is absolutely rediculous. Go get your muffler, tell him to get F*****, and drive somewhere else.

cmon guys lets not jump the gun here.... what's a;; involved with this install? is he just bolting in a system? if so the price is a bit steep but if he's doing a bunch of custom bending you got a deal.

the way i look at getting things done that i don't want to do. is i am paying for what the repair/installer knows how to do, not what they do. if it saves me time and materials than thats ok. and yes i do get quotes for the job, but it all depends on how many people/shops are willing to do it. on what they charge if there is only one with in 100 miles that does it then you pay what they charge or travel, it all depends on how much of an inconvenience it is.

the $500.00 they quote me was for all materials and installation with lifetime warranty i can say the name of the shop cause i don't think the price is bad at all, it was Meineke shop that has a good reputation on custom exhaust work not the type to leave the tips hanging 3 inch from the bumper and when you start the engine they still hit the bumper.

First shop I went to wanted $400 just for the installation on a non mandrel bent system dumped before the axle. Next shop wanted a grand for a mandrel bent system.

I did it all myself and it cost me about $900 in parts and 10 hours in labor (doesn't sound right).

magnaflow makes a bolt on kit that is si/do for 500 or so. I believe borla, gibson , flowstoppers, and others also have dual out kits as well as single out kits that anyone with very little experience can do in their own garage without much trouble. I don't like to mess with shops unless absolutly necessary. I have exhaust on 3 of my 4 vehicle and all of them were bolt on kits done by me on very little time. Good luck whatever u choose.

Well seeing as how my garage consists of an oil rig location, and I have no place to have stuff shipped... im kinda stuck with using an exhaust shop.

Here's the update. I went to the place yesterday and picked up the truck. He had already taken out the stock muffler and placed the new one without bolting/welding anything.

I paid him 20 bucks for the trouble, and took my truck down the road. Found a backwoods place that claimed they did exhuast work. Paid the guy 100 bucks and he did a fantastic job.

Thanks for the tips guys. Borla's sound very nice if you don't want a super loud exhaust. Good rumble at low throttle and sounds very nice at wot.
