Mark, you might wanna make this a sticky???

Although this is a website for the NSX, it still holds some very good information that applies to all vehicles.

This link below is in reference to exhaust/headers/heads in general:

http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Miscellaneous/exhausttheory.htm

What really surprised me is that they put Thrush Turbo and Flowmaster as the worst ones you can buy... although I already knew that Flowmasters were at the bottom of the list! LOL

Swap for high-flow cats and a single 3" in/out straight-through muffler from Aeroturbine, Banks, Borla, Corsa, Gibson, or Magnaflow.

Welcome aboard crotch - we're glad you joined us! Your plan of running an AT3030 sounds good! You might want to see what that sounds like first before you remove the cats... for what little gains you'll see, removing the cats isn't worth seeing all the DTCs pop up Wink

when i had my custom exhaust done the guy in the shop told me the same thing...that the cats that come on these late model Hemi's are actually just as good or close enough as "high flow cats" that cost a bunch of money, and the stock one's last longer too...

Hey guys. I just bought a 08 hemi ram last weekend with the MDS. I took it to the muffler shop today and had them put the 40 series flowmaster on with side exit duals. It sounded awesome when I got on it but when the MDS kicked itn it went to crap. Any suggestions on how to get rid of that deep MDS drone? Please help I paid 200 dollars and had to put the stock back on. Thanks

Almost all cat back systems have a drone of some kind some worse than others usually around 50-60 mph...Its not the MDS its just the nature of the beast all my other vehicles have it someway or another ....chris

So, with all this good information in mind, am I going to be better off with glass pack or Flowmasters when I have my Ram 1500 Hemi set up with duals this year?

Most of the 07-08 Rams have a resonator early in the exhaust that can be left on to rid yourself of the MDS drone somewhat, with any aftermarket exhaust.
Mine did not have this underneath, from headers only had cats (didnt touch), pipe, muffler, rear resonator.
Going with a quieter Flowmaster instead of ANY of the 40s would be good (50 series) but I went with a muffler from FloPro (and did NOT retain resonator) after the advisory of the exhaust place's manager, who has personally done my last 3 custom exhausts and done a great job...turned out great!

Deep smooth tone that sounds identical to the Flowmaster 50 but at highway speeds none of the aggravating drone of the Flowmaster 40 (super or original) that I had on my last 2 Rams. Unfortunately I didnt realize more than 1/4 mpg avg improvement in mileage and very little performance gains but sounds great and I know it flows better so didnt get to dyno but I know it has to make more power...
