I keep hearing that an exhaust will sound like crap when the MDS activates. Anybody got any insight on this? And does anyone have a pic of the underside of a factory exhaust that they can explain the location of the different parts such as the foward resonator?

its not a pretty sound but its bearable. i dont have a pic and i dont have an '08, but on my '06 the foward resonator is just in front of the big tub muffler, and then there was a little tailpipe resonator under the rear bumber.

I have an 07 with the cherry bomb extreme....its the most amazing sound I've ever heard....when the MDS isn't kicked in. Think of going from 70's muscle car to a john deer tractor in 1 second...there is probably a lot of people who couldn't stand this but its the price i'm willing to for 1 amazing exhaust note.

Your 08 has a converter on each side behind the headers. They join at a "Y" pipe and go into the muffler. Yeah I know the 07's and earlier have a resonator between there that the 08's don't have. The exhaust pipe runs to behind the right rear wheel into "the" resonator and out the tip.

I went with the new Flowmaster built for the Dodge MDS engine. 1 in 2 out. It has a pretty good sound. Nothing is going to be perfect with the MDS but this works pretty good. Has a good rumble but isn't real loud.
It's a shame you aren't closer you could come listen to mine before you spend a bunch of money on something you don't like.
If there is anything I can do to help let me know. thumb2

If you have a 1500 I am almost positive you only have one resonator. You will have a muffler under your truck about halfway under your truck and is quit big. Then you should have a resonator the about the 1/3 the size of the muffler. It is close to the tailpipe and you should be able to see it if you walk away from your truck 10 feet or so looking at the back bumper and tail pipe. I am 20 years old and bought my truck brand new and stock. I couldnt even tell if my truck was running unless I looked at the tachometer. Now being the age I am I wanted a loud truck and put a muffler on within the first few weeks I bought it. I put a at3030xl muffler from http://www.aeroexhaust.com/ but purchases it on here from the forum store. I bought this muffler cause it sounded the best to me and got the at3030xl versus the at3030 because it has a built in resonator and wanted to damper the the mds as much as possible but still wanted a loud exhasut. I got my muffler installed at the stock location than a turndown pipe after the muffler. I did this beacuse it was cheaper and wasnt a fan of the dual exhasut or signle stock tail pipe. But in doingg so I cut back drone, the exhasut cant echo and reverberate off the pipe and make the mds sound even worse beacuae there isnt really any pipe after it. But also with the pipe being dumped right after the cab you can feel the muffler more so than you would with out it being bumped. Here is a link to a thread I posted with a video of my muffler before and after the install. http://hemitruckclub.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4480038252/m/1460015315

You are going to notice when mds is engadged with my setup. It does not sound terrible but is noticable. At slightly lower than highway speeds and very little throttle it is very hard to tell if it is engadged or not. The loudest part of it is probally slow acceleration where mds is almost on the verge of switching to 8 cylinder mode and am shifting from 1st to second around 2,000 rpms. On the freeway and if mds is engaged and are above 2,200 rpm it vibrates quit a bit and is a little anoying maybe to some. But if you want a better sound and not the most performance you can get I would leave the back resonator on or put a glass pack infront of the new muffler you install. Also I beleave there is a company who makes an exhasut specifically for our mds trucks. Supose to sound good and have an agressive sound but not sound bad and here the mds when engadged. I do not remember the name beacuse it is expensive and I personally dont think it sounds as good as other systems, but many have it and love it.
I hope that this short novel was helpfull. And if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Sounds pretty good bigbluehemi, especially for a peace of pipe. I like your signature line too.

Just installed 28" Dynomax Thrush Glasspack on the 08 Mega Cab and have no complaints on the sound. Nothing fancy just dropped the factory muffler and installed the Glasspack. Very nice rumble, very happy with it!
