I getting a little tired of the catback I have on the truck now and am thinking about getting something new to better fit the truck. Dont get me worng I love the sound of the borla catback I have one there now, it sounds very nice under WOT, but is just a little to quiet for normal day to day driving, and the cutout is nice too but Im not really liking how the system is working while it is closed as it just doesn't sound quite right and its not wanting to shut all the way anymore. I have to shut it once, then shut it a second time to get it to close all the way. For what ever reason it sounds like the motor is skipping right before closing all the way or its getting snagged on something.

Another thing that is kinda bothering me is that the muffler is to far back, the edge is resting on one of my shocks (on the protective sleeve) and if I were to do what I want to do with the exhaust as far as headers and a new ORY Im not going to have the room under there to work it out.

So, here is what I am thinking about doing. I want remove the ENTIRE catback system in place right now including the cutout and replace that whole setup with a Borla XR-1 Mutli-Core Racing Muffler.

The muffler I have in there now is their Turbo XL - 3" SI / 2.25" DO messuring 19"x4"x9.5"

Their XR-1 Multi-Core Muffler would be 3" SI / 3" SO messuring 16"x4.25"x7.875"

I also no longer want to run the pipes out the back, they look nice and all but I want a cleaner look and want to put a 3" to 2.5" dump pipe on instead.

Also before anyone questions the muffler IN/OUT diameter being a 3" instead of the dual 2.25" like the current one, When I run with my 3" cutout open, I am netting faster 0-60 times than with it closed running through the catback so the lack of back pressure right now is not there. That being said this is with the restrictive stock Y and manifold, which will be replaced by LT headers and a 3"ORY.

Im also not worried about the price ebay has some good deals right now. The sound quality is really good too, very aggresive sounding and have been said to be slightly quieter and cleaner sounding than an open cutout and little to no drone which is what I am after.

So, do you guys see any flaws with this setup???

I love my XR1, being too quiet will definitely not be a problem for you anymore. Here is how I ran mine header-back. I too came from running an open cutout all the time and can tell you it is a 100% improvement, and will only sound better the more mods you install. I was so happy with mine I sold the cutout altogether, actually twice today people came up and complemented how the truck sounds so you will definitely turn heads.

IS there any drone in the cab?

I wouldn't necessarily call it drone, but is certainly loud. I have ridden in trucks with Flowmaster exhaust that I definitely noticed bad drone in, but the XR1 does not sound like that at all. Mine is especially loud though because of the cam/long tube/ORY combo though and I'm sure a milder setup would not be quite as bad.

Alright well compare it to the open cutout since we both have/had one on our trucks. Is it as loud in the cab or is it a little less obnoxious? Just trying to gauge it as far as how loud it is.

The catback I have now is the borla from the daytonas, well slightly different as mine is a SI/DO and exits behind each wheel and it is quiet, really quiet until you get on it then it has a bit of a bark to it but the tone is just off now that the cutout has been installed and doesn't sound quite right.

Definitely not as loud inside and out as the cutout, and it's not poppy and crappy sounding like a Z-71 with glasspacks. Just deep, smooth, and pretty mean. Got your PM, hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to get that vid for ya, been meaning to make a sound clip with the new setup anyway.

Hey which version of the XR1 are you running? The sportsman or the Multicore?
