Hey guys/gals:

I was under the truck changing the oil and was looking around some. I noticed that where the stock exhaust y's together, it seems to be awfully constrictive. I'm not looking to get an aftermarket system, and I still want it to sound stock.

Has anyone freed up that y somewhat? Is there any increase to be had in mpg or hp by freeing up that y pipe?

Thanks
Constantine

I'm sure there are companies that make a cat back system to replace the restrictive Y but none will sound stock. You could always just buy the Y and put the stock mufflers back on. I'm not sure why would would want to do that though. I'd bet the stock mufflers are just as restrictive as that Y pipe is and a Y pipe itself is restrictive anyway.

I see what your saying, but the stock y pipe almost has a kink in it. I was wondering if anyone placed a y pipe that flowed a little better.

If I wanted to hot rod it, duals all the way!!! This thing is a DD and I really don't want to put an after market exhaust on it. My thinking was to make some improvements to the flow characteristicts where the y comes together to get some better mpg.

Thanks

Yeah an aftermarket Y will help some but will still be restricted by the stock mufflers

you dont have to hot rod it. you could get an aftermarket exhaust, and one that would be incredibly quiet. check out magnaflow or a flowmaster 50HD, keep the stock res on the end and it will be quiet. but it will sound and perform better than stock Wink
