Interesting how the media is ignoring that the guy and his accomplices are Muslims.

What happened

The tragedy began to unfold at about 1:30 p.m. local time at Fort Hood, a sprawling base north of Austin. Cone says that only one suspect opened fire at the post’s soldier readiness center, where dozens of American soldiers had gathered for pre-deployment processing.

This contradicted early media reports that as many as three gunman were roaming the post. Cone says three other suspects were also detained and questioned, but all have been released.

Fort Hood was in “lock down” for at least five hours as authorities scoured the base to ensure the safety of the estimated 50,000 to 75,000 residents.

Cone says investigators have not dismissed the possibility that there might have been other accomplices. There are questions about how one person who reportedly had only two handguns could harm so many people. But Cone said the readiness center was crowded, which could account for the high casualty figures. The FBI is on site to investigate, he added.

There is no evidence, however, to suggest the attack was linked to terrorism, he said.

So there you are. I'm just keeping up with the news. Did you notice my first post was yesterday? Huh? Huh? I heard these reports as they were happening while driving down the road and they mentioned accomplices. But they were later released.

Obama: 'Shout-out'

Yesterday, I saw Obama make his first public comments about the Fort Hood shootings on live TV.

When he stepped to the podium, I expected Obama to get right to addressing the incident.

Instead, he seemed to yap on and on, addressing the happenings at the Tribal Nations Conference.

Obama began in a rather light-hearted manner. He smiled and waved when he said:

I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow was around, and so I want to give a shout-out to that Congressional Medal of Honor* winner It's good to see you.

(Obama misspoke when he said "Congressional Medal of Honor." Obama should have said "President Medal of Freedom." The White House transcript has been amended to note Obama's error. Obama awarded the Medal of Freedom to Dr. Joe Medicine Crow on August 12, 2009.)

I commented to others also watching the live "breaking news" that it seemed to be taking forever before Obama commented on the shootings.

We couldn't believe that he chose to talk about the "extremely productive conference," give his thank-yous, and give that "shout-out" ahead of his first comments to the nation, and the world, about Nidal Malik Hasan gunning down dozens of Americans at Fort Hood.

The entirety of Obama's remarks took five minutes. He spent a full two minutes talking about issues related to the conference of Native Americans until he got around to commenting on the carnage.

I thought it was a poor choice on Obama's part. The nation was waiting to hear from Obama. He knew that his words were being carried on live TV. He should have discussed the shootings and then dealt with the issues of the conference.

Obama IS a poor choice! Note the marked difference in his complete lack of passion and grit compared to Bush on 9/11. Define it however you will - but this was an act of domestic terrorism. B-HO gets much more excited when he is in 'campaign mode' talking about America's faults than he does when our Nation needs a commander-in-chief to defend our troops. HemiFun05

Just proves how stupid this guy is when it comes to the military. It's Medal of Honor Recipient. Not flippin winner. What did he win? He risked his life and "won" a medal? OMG what a moron.

Contrary to my previous post, I will stick up for B-Ho and his remarks to the press as I saw it live. What did you want him to say? He didn't have all the facts as obvious by Roberts post about accomplices. Communication in an incedent is best contained and not leaked out as it was in this case. There were over 400 people in the immediate area on top of the mass confusion of the incedent itself. The reported fact that it took them 30 minutes to settle the situation is quite remarkable. You don't brief the President until you have as much information as you possibly can. He is the President of the US and I would certainly hope that an incident such as this would not have derailed him from working other issues. All it is to him is information. He has no roll in what is going to happen on-site. In fact, as I have heard some right wing nut jobs ask today, is why isn't B-Ho on the way to Ft. Hood? Well, no one wants him there. They have work to do and don't need to be disrupted or slowed by the President being there. Leave him alone. He's doing fine.

What I find the most rediculous about dogging B-ho for how or when he said what, is this comes from the same people that defended President Bush when he didn't immediately respond to a tragedy.

That's easy enough. Military bases are basically gun free zones because all of the weapons are kept locked up or unloaded. Base gate guards (usually rent-a-cops) aren't trained to do much more than lock the gates if told to do so, and so had no chance of detecting anything bring brought on the base. Imagine the outcome if only the NCO's had been carrying sidearms...

If you don't trust us with our guns, why should we trust you with our government?
