Here's someone that says he didn't know what he was protesting. Also, a vendor says the protesters never buy anything.

Here's a guy that gets paid for protesting. Wow, isn't that a surprise?

Ah, peaceful protestors. Gotta love them.

Actually, the title is a misnomer. Libs don't think. They "feel." Thinking just gets in the way.

Hey, both my parents are die-hard Libs (they keep wondering where they went wrong with me).

Needless to say our family visits are quite interesting, especially during election years. Eeker

The dems just can't be any more screwed up than they are. Hell B-HO doesn't even have the full support from his own party.

In another sign of lingering discord between the Clinton and Obama camps, FOX News confirmed Wednesday that former President Bill Clinton will not attend Barack Obama’s Democratic presidential nomination acceptance speech at Invesco Field in Denver Thursday night.

One senior Obama aide said the candidate is “not worried about it. There’s places besides Denver where we need and will get his help winning this election.”

Clinton has continued to lob perceived bombs at the man who defeated his wife, Hillary Clinton, in the Democratic primary. Just hours before the New York senator took center stage Tuesday night to offer words of healing, her husband was detonating what could be interpreted as another blast.

Speaking at a forum of ex-world leaders less than a mile from the site of the Democratic National Convention, Bill Clinton drew an analogy that had many wondering whether the former president had made peace with the idea of an Obama candidacy.

“Suppose for example you’re a voter and you have candidate X and you have candidate Y,” Clinton said. “Candidate X agrees with you on everything but you don’t think that person can deliver on anything. Candidate Y disagrees with you on half the issues but you believe that on the other half, the candidate will be able to deliver.”
“This is the kind of question that I predict — and this heas nothing to do with what’s going on now — but I am just saying if you look at five, 10, 15 years from now, you may actually see this delivery issue become a serious issue in Democratic debates because it is so hard to figure out how to turn good intentions into real changes in the lives of the people we represent.”

Whether Clinton, who for 20 years has been the star of the Democratic Party, intended the analogy to represent a futuristic look at presidential politics, its relevance to the current candidacies of Republican John McCain and Obama was unmistakable.

“What his strategy is to go around drumming stuff on Obama, his crazy quotes, and he’s cultivated a careful reputation for being eccentric, and therefore, Hillary is not blamed for what he does … and the result is he can go around and dump on Obama and almost be like a negative Greek chorus,” said former Clinton speechwriter and now-FOX News contributor Dick Morris.

The motive, Morris said, is “to defeat Barack Obama and make sure Hillary can get elected in 2012.”

“I don’t think the Clintons’ feelings would be hurt” if Obama lost the 2008 election, said Republican strategist Chip Saltsman.

The former president is scheduled to put the capstone on the Hillary-Bill public endorsement of Obama during a convention speech Wednesday night.

On Wednesday, Obama spokesman Bill Burton said Bill Clinton is “one of the most unique and beloved figures in the Democratic Party and the country” and will “talk about why Senator Obama is the right leader right now” and how he knows Obama “will get the country back on track.”

Obama called Bill Clinton on Tuesday night to congratulate him on his wife’s address to the convention. Obama said he knew how proud Clinton must have been watching Hillary Clinton and how grateful he was for their support.

But tensions were simmering ahead of the Clinton speech, which has not been read by the Obama campaign. Obama senior adviser Anita Dunn said the camp is “not nervous at all” about not having seen the text, but is rather “excited” since it will be an “electric moment” when Clinton makes “the case for Obama and for change.”

On Sunday, it was reported that Bill Clinton was unhappy about the night of his speech because he preferred to address domestic issues, but the theme of Wednesday night’s proceedings is foreign policy. Clinton, however, will be speaking on the importance of a strong economy.

Obama said Monday he’d spoken to Clinton about the speech, saying he told Clinton he could talk about anything he likes.

“Bill Clinton knows a little bit about trying to yank the economy out of the doldrums,” Obama said. “It wouldn’t make sense for me to want to edit his remarks.”

Playing second fiddle to the new Democratic order doesn’t mean the former president can’t influence an Obama administration.

“Bill Clinton’s place in the hearts of Democrats is very secure. He rescued us from the wilderness” said former California Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat. “We had been wandering there for 40 years, having lost three presidential elections.

“Now we’re turning a page. Barack Obama is going to be our next president and I expect Bill Clinton to be campaigning for him.”

Davis added that Clinton could serve as an ambassador or envoy for an Obama administration the way he has for President Bush.

FOX News political analyst Michael Steele said he believes Clinton will use his Wednesday night speech to try and restore his image, especially with black voters, who were part of his base of support.

“I think this is about Bill, not Barack,” Steele said, adding that Clinton can and will restore his image.

“He still has a role to play,” he added. “He will assert that role in any number of ways. We’ll see one of those ways when he gives a speech at the convention.”

Democratic consultant Tad Devine said he expects Bill Clinton to be supportive, adding that one role Clinton could perform is that of attack dog on the Republicans.

“If anything I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Clinton give a very strong speech in support of Obama,” he said.

If Obama loses, don't think for a New York second that Hillary won't be back for another try in 2012 (or 2016, if that doesn't work).

We haven't seen (or heard) the last of the Clintons, not by a long shot.

Katrina v2.0

Louisiana eyes Gustav, activates Guard troops
AP News
Wednesday, August 27, 2008

On the eve of Hurricane Katrina's third anniversary, a nervous New Orleans watched Wednesday as another storm threatened to test everything the city has rebuilt, and officials made preliminary plans to evacuate people, pets and hospitals in an attempt to avoid a Katrina-style chaos.

Forecasters warned that Gustav could grow into a dangerous Category 3 hurricane in the next several days and hit somewhere along a swath of the Gulf Coast from the Florida Panhandle to Texas _ with New Orleans smack in the middle.

"I'm panicking," said Evelyn Fuselier of Chalmette, whose home was submerged in 14 feet of floodwater when Katrina hit. Fuselier said she's been back in her home one year this month, and called watching Gustav swirl toward the Gulf of Mexico indescribable. "I keep thinking, 'Did the Corps fix the levees?,' 'Is my house going to flood again?' ... 'Am I going to have to go through all this again?'"

Taking no chances, city officials began preliminary planning to evacuate and lock down the city in hopes of avoiding the catastrophe that followed the 2005 storm. Mayor Ray Nagin left the Democratic National Convention in Denver to return home for the preparations. Gov. Bobby Jindal declared a state of emergency to lay the groundwork for federal assistance, and put 3,000 National Guard troops on standby.

If a Category 3 or stronger hurricane comes within 60 hours of the city, New Orleans plans to institute a mandatory evacuation order. Unlike Katrina, there will be no massive shelter at the Superdome, a plan designed to encourage residents to leave. Instead, the state has arranged for buses and trains to take people to safety.

It was unclear what would happen to stragglers. Jerry Sneed, the city's emergency preparedness director, said officials are ready to move about 30,000 people. Nearly 8,000 people had signed up for transportation help by late Wednesday.

At a suburban Lowe's store, employees said portable generators, gasoline cans, bottled water and batteries were selling briskly. Hotels across south Louisiana reported taking many reservations as coastal residents looked inland for possible refuge.

Steve Weaver, 82, and his wife stayed for Katrina _ and were plucked off the roof of their house by a Coast Guard helicopter. This time, Weaver has no inclination to ride out the storm.

"Everybody learned a lesson about staying, so the highways will be twice as packed this time," Weaver said.

Katrina struck New Orleans on Aug. 29, 2005, and its storm surge blasted through the levees that protect the city. Eighty percent of the city was flooded.

Though pockets of the New Orleans are well on the way to recovery, many neighborhoods have struggled to recover. Many residents still live in temporary trailers, and shuttered homes still bear the 'X' that was painted to help rescue teams looking for the dead.

Many people never returned, and the city's population, around 310,000 people, is roughly two-thirds what it was before the storm, though various estimates vary wildly.

Since the storm, the Army Corps of Engineers has spent billions of dollars to improve the levee system, but because of two quiet hurricane seasons, the flood walls have never been tested.

Floodgates have been installed on drainage canals to stop any storm surge from entering the city, and levees have been raised and in many places strengthened with concrete.

Robert Turner Jr., the regional levee director, said the levee system can handle a storm with the likelihood of occurring every 30 years, what the corps calls a 30-year storm. By comparison, Katrina was a 396-year storm.

Gustav formed Monday and roared ashore Tuesday as a Category 1 hurricane near the southern Haitian city of Jacmel with top winds near 90 mph, toppling palm trees and flooding the city's Victorian buildings.

The storm triggered flooding and landslides that killed 22 people in the Caribbean. It weakened into a tropical storm and appeared headed for Cuba, though it is likely to grow stronger in the coming days by drawing energy from warm open water.

Scientists cautioned that the storm's track and intensity were difficult to predict several days in advance.

But in New Orleans, there was little else to do except prepare as if it were Katrina. The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was set to begin moving animals inland to shelters in Baton Rouge on Thursday, and more would go to Texas shelters on Friday and Saturday.

"We definitely don't want to wait until Saturday or Sunday to decide what to do," said Ana Zorrilla, director of the pet-rescue group.

In Grand Isle, tractor loads of dirt and clay mud were being hauled in to fill portions of the levee system damaged by Hurricane Katrina, said Grand Isle Mayor David Camardelle. The coastal community south of New Orleans historically is one of the first to evacuate when tropical weather threatens and was hard-hit by Katrina.

"I couldn't sleep last night," Carmardelle said. "We just came back from so much."

Emergency preparations also were under way along Mississippi's coast. The eye of Hurricane Katrina pushed ashore near the small towns of Waveland and Bay St. Louis, Miss., and along the 70-mile coastline, roughly 65,000 homes were destroyed, and thousands of businesses and hulking casino barges were wiped out.

"We don't need anything of this magnitude to come here," said Biloxi Mayor A. J. Holloway. "Katrina just devastated us."

The oil market also reacted to the threat. Oil prices jumped above $119 a barrel as workers began to evacuate from the offshore rigs responsible for a quarter of U.S. crude production. Any damage to the oil infrastructure or Gulf Coast refineries could send U.S. pump prices spiking, possibly before the busy Labor Day weekend.

"A bad storm churning in the Gulf could be a nightmare scenario," said Phil Flynn, an analyst at Alaron Trading Corp. in Chicago. "We might see oil prices spike $5 to $8 if it really rips into platforms."

Many residents hadn't yet made a decision about leaving. Lawson "Sonny" Brannan, a construction company owner, was busy renovating a client's home Wednesday, just blocks from where a levee was breached in the Lakeview neighborhood. A wall of water up to 15 feet deep wiped out the home.

Brannan calmly went about his business, but nonetheless kept a watchful eye on the weather.

"I'm not going to worry about it until I see it in the Gulf," he said. "Then I'll make my decisions."

So this is how liberals help the homeless? At least for the week of the convention? hahahha.

Screw these homeless. Most of them look like they could work just fine and making ANYTHING per hour is better than nothing. Most of these homeless shelters look like labor ready centers. These people hang out, waiting for free food and playing cards.
