'It really shows just how bad this problem is when a lifelong oil man like T. Boone Pickens says it's time to change to wind!!!!!!'
Yeah, good ole Texas oil man T. Boone Pickens has a plan for alternative energy too. He's spending a TON of money to let us know that the country needs to break it's addiction to oil and switch to wind. Surely that has NOTHING to do with the fact that he's invested $2 billion to build wind turbines, and is working on hooking up a power grid from the wind farms in West Texas all the way to Dallas. The great thing about wind as opposed to oil is, wind is subsidized by the taxpayer dollars to the tune of $25 per kilowatt hour. In other words, we pay his expenses, HE reaps the profit. There's more. At Pickens behest, the Texas Legislature changed a law allowing him, through his wife and ranch manager, eminent domain rights over 200,000 acres worth of groundwater rights in Roberts, Texas that could bolster his budget another $1 billion. But it's all about the planet, right? |

OK WTF?? Less than a month ago when I suggested T-Boone's plan, you , in so many words said it was stupid. Now you're jumping on the bandwagon or is that a flip flop?
Posted by Ram-Page T-Bone Pickins Monday, May 19, 2008 T-Bone Pickins, an oil billionaire, was just on CNN promoting what would be the world's largest wind farm, to be built by him using his own money, in Texas. Good Ole T-Bone said - among other things - that Saudi Arabia was already pumping as much oil as they can(so don't blame them), and that we(the United States) didn't have much oil left. Several red flags starting flying immediately: Red flag #1: T-bone has made his fortune with oil... he has a vested interest in keeping oil scarce and expensive. Red flag #2: The Saudi big wigs told us just last week they were pumping enough to supply the present demand, and they denied Bush's plea to pump more(which they easily can) to ease up on the prices Remember that? Bush just went over to Saudi Arabia to literally beg them to increase output(which everybody knows they can), except for maybe oil billionaire T-bone Pickins. Red flag #3: Just two days ago CNN reported that the United states had enough oil - right now, today - to provide energy for 100 million homes and 160 million cars for SIXTY years. That does not include the billions of barrels available in our shale oil deposits. Red flag #4: Wind generators are expensive and very high maintenance. Like ethanol, it takes a hell of a lot of money and effort - a steady flow of both - to get a single kilowatt out of a wind farm. Red flag #5: T-Bone claims he will build this wind farm with his own money. If you believe that, you don't need to be reading any of this. Red flag #6: He wants to build it in Texas, where's there's lots of high winds. Well, hell yes, lots of tornadoes also. That's like building your house in a flood plain... you're gonna get hit... and insurance companies won't touch you. This CNN "program" with T-Bone was so full of bull sh*t it was hard to watch, but I hope these six red flags will get you to start thinking about all this con-artistry the big boys are - and will be - trying to get away with during this energy crisis, all of which will cost us dearly and make them a lot richer... and won't solve a single problem. How the hell will a wind farm help with the gas problem? TODAY? We would need to get rid of every gas-guzzler and diesel semi-truck rig on the highways today and convert to electric vehicles and hybrids to use any of this wind generated electrical energy. How long - and how much money - would that require? How the hell will a wind farm help with the heating oil problem in the east? TODAY? Every home using heating oil today would have to rip out their present heating system, replace it with an all-electric one, and then, the power companies would have to run miles and miles of new power lines to handle the load. How long - and how much money - would that require? T-bone is just looking for another way to make another billion or so. There must be a lot of CNN bigwigs that own stock in Pickins companies. http://thegundeck.blogspot.com/2008/05/t-bone-pickins.html http://www.star-telegram.com/104/story/761664.html http://hemitruckclub.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4380010604/m/1010084365 2009 1500 Big Horn addition SLT/Laramie, 2009 Challenger R/T |

I guess you didn't get my sarcasm. I'm not jumping on any wind wagon. People are going on and on about, "gee, if this OILMAN is investing in wind then it must be good" bs. This guy is into M-o-n-e-y power. It's manupulating the market in your favor by investing in something new and then steer the market away from oil and to something you have money into. Gore did the same with the GW bs. But people, other than libs, are smarter than to believe that shit. That's all I'm saying. T Boone is doing it because it's a way to get more money. Not that oil isn't any good. |

Gotcha Really thou, how much more money do you think this guy needs? He is already a Billionaire. He has invested millions of his own money. It takes 5 to 8 years for each farm to start making a profit. Depending on the size of the farm and where the energy is distributed. The man is 80 years old. Just how much of any profit do you think he’s going to see? What I don’t get is why people that have never heard of the guy until now are so quick to judge him? You don’t know how much he’s done through donations to Oklahoma and Texas. He’s actually a pretty cool dude. He’s donated more money than some country’s will ever see. Why don't you take the time to do a little research on the guy before you start blasting him? Just because a guy has money doesn't make him a bad person. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._Boone_Pickens 2009 1500 Big Horn addition SLT/Laramie, 2009 Challenger R/T |

I was wondering the same thing after Bill Gates hit 10 Billion. After the first Billion I guess it's not about money. From a conservative point of view I don't see anything wrong with making all that money as long as it's done morally. But if it's true he's getting government subsidies because it's WIND and he's granted eminent domain properties then I don't like it. |

Well what is not reported is the Abilene land owners where the windmills went up are getting $2500 a month per windmill. They are getting $6K for each maintenance structure built or brought in to his property. There is no eminet domain. The only thing I ever heard mentioned concerning eminent domain was that the state/county were pissed because they wanted to seize several hundred acres to widen the hwy to 4 lanes. Now they can't because the windmills are there. Truth be known, there is no damn need for a 4 lane hwy there once all the windmills are finished being built. Everyone involed in any form of energy gets subsidies of some type. It may be in the form of tax incentives or tax breaks. I know that the government has authorized special government rate pricing (GSA) for some of their tooling and equipment. 2009 1500 Big Horn addition SLT/Laramie, 2009 Challenger R/T |

I would prefer to look and the enterprise and not the person. It is obvious that we need to reduce the consumption of oil, as it will be depleted for our kids and grand kids. Try thinking out of the envelope like Einstein and Orville and Wilbur Wright. I think it is a good idea. It won't solve the overall picture, but it will help.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts". |

Of course I don't know him personally but have known of him for many many years. I honestly think it is more about helping the country than anything else. IMO, if there is any personal gain that he is after, it would be to add to his lagacy. I don't have a problem with that. What ever his motives are, it needed to be done and he had the cash and the knowledge to get it going. Just amazes me, he has been building these for years and it's just now that it gains any notoriety. 2009 1500 Big Horn addition SLT/Laramie, 2009 Challenger R/T |

Yeah, I watched videos of dem dar win turbine thingies and ran out to my truck to see if my gas tank level went up. It didn't. But hey, it makes the greenies feel good. Man, I can't believe the oil in the earth has about run out already. Didn't someone check the dipstick? At least we're smarter than China. They're still drilling. hahaha. Boy will they regret it. Except from net: Over the past nine days and 3,000 miles and seven wind farms, Sandy Swanson and I took many still shots, reams of video, and copious notes and conducted numerous interviews. What's happening is an absolute crime. Every single impact that is denied by developers has been confirmed again and again in wind farm after wind farm. Lovely rural communities are being turned into industrial freak shows. In some places people have just accepted their fate and live with it, not understanding how empowered they actually are by their situations . . . meaning that all they'd have to do is get noisy enough and the developers would stop ignoring them. One told us she's learned how to go outside in her garden and block everything from her mind . . . so as not to be disturbed and frustrated. She said once, on a quiet day (the turbines weren't moving), she heard what sounded like gunshots. She had been blocking everything as she had taught herself to do and suddenly realized the gunshot noises were really coming from the nearest turbine . . . probably contracting as the sun went down. |

Would you purchase property overlooking windturbines? Is that a beautiful sight for you? How about one in your backyard? Can't wait for the day when people finally start waking up to the stupidity of wind power. I'll be laughing when they're taking them down. |

Great. Let's do. But the reality is that we are completely, utterly dependent on oil. If you were facing an operation, imagine the surgeon saying, "Blood is nice, but it has a limited supply. We're going to switch your blood out with vinegar while you're asleep." My guess is you might cancel the surgery. And see about having that doctor committed. How about putting windmills out in the ocean. It's pretty windy out there. All I know is that Ted Kennedy is all for wind power but just not in his view. |
