My truck came with sirius and I'm about to upgrade my stereo system. I want to know if the original sirius antenna will work with an aftermarket direct sirius tuner for aftermarket stereos?

I have a 06 which should be the same as yours. I reused mine but the stock antenna lead has a plastic clip on the end that I had to carefully snip off to expose the actual end. It will then plug onto the aftermarket input, but will be a little loose. I zip tied the slack in the line so the lead would not wiggle off the input. No problems.

bill I just saw a post about this and I think you said that the sirius would not work unless you have a sat box to match your h/u, and now I see that you've made it work with out getting another box please tell me this is true. Oh and give all the details please, I have a 08.

Sorry, now that I've re-read it, my last post wasn't very clear. To get Sirius you need a Sirius ready/capable H/U, a matching brand Sirius controller (box) and a Sirius antenna. The factory box will not work with an aftermarket H/U. I replaced the factory H/U and controller, but was able to re-use the factory antenna with an aftermarket box without an adapter.
I read a thread a while ago on here where a guy gave directions for wiring in the factory sat box to an aftermarket radio, not sure, but I believe it was for pre 06 (which is different). It involved cutting into the harness and wiring to indiviual speakers. It sounded like it would work, but wouldn't have the features of a box and seemed a lot easier to me to simply spend the $80-$100 for the aftermarket box and it's a real easy install. |
