As the subject implies, I'm looking for a couple of inexpensive amps to add to my rig. A 4 channel for the doors, and mono sub amp for one JL 12w0 that I already have. Putting that in a fox box. Anyway, I was looking at JL amps on fleabay, but they still seem overpriced. Anyone have any experience with Phoneix Gold, Audiobahn, or the like? What do you recommend. I'm looking for at least 80x4@4ohms rms on the 4 channel, and 250x1@4ohms on the sub. Help a brother out!

I think I'm going to still go with just one 12" sub, but not the JL I have. Think I'm going to look for a DVC that will handle a lil more power. This thing just keeps growing!

I only have the 4 speaker system, so I would like to add speakers in the dash locations. Would it be advisable to get some 6.5 components and mount the tweeters in the dash, or should I get 6.5 coax for the doors and 3.5's for the dash. So many decisions!

this are the ones i have in the dash they fit but you have to make new holes or use hot glue to secure them, i made new holes with a hot nail, it's hard to reach cause of the windshield but there is a big gain in sound output verses the 3.5

the amplifiers is more a question of brand preference, power, size, and features. a lot of guys wont buy an amp that has 1% distortion at rated power but they don't know most speakers can distort the sound 5 times more than that and 10 times more for subwoofers and experts say that Humans can't distinguish a sound wave with 1% distortion from one with 0.006, I know I can't I tested it before.

WELL I AGREE, BUT I HAVE AUDIOBAHN 3.5 SEPERATES IN THE DASH, THEY MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE! DEFF A MUST HAVE IF I HAVE TO RECOMEND ANYTHING, PUT SOME UP THERE, THEY BRING THE SOUNDSTAGE UP IN THE VEHICLE, AND AMPS ARE ALL UP TO YOU, I CAN SAY THAT I HAVE HAD AMPS WITH 1% AND .05 % THD AND I CAN TELL A DIFFERENCE AT THE TOP END, ESP WHEN YOUR RUNNIN A AMP AT MAX AND THE SPEAKERS AT CLOSE TO THEIR RMS VALUE TOO! SOME FREQUENCY BLOCKAGE COMES AND MUDDY AND SOMETIMES FALLS OFF KEY SOMETIMES! JUST MY PERSONAL EXP. BUT THATS WITH 2YRS OF SQ COMPETITION ALSO, AND ANOTHER 4YRS DB DRAG. MISS THAT FOR SURE! GUESS ITS TIME FOR A COMEBACK TOUR HERE IN TEXAS! LOL. BUT JUST REMEMBER WHAT SOUNDS GOOD TO YOU IS WHAT REALLY MATTERS MOST SINCE ITS YOUR RIDE! EVERYONE CAN GIVE YOU ALL THEIR INPUT, JUST HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN THINGS OUT THERE, A DECENT AMP AND DECENT SPEAKERS SOUNDS BETTER THAN MOST OF THE HIGH DOLLAR STUFF! SO GO IN THE MIDDLE NOT THE LOW END!

Great info guys, thank you. Still in the planning phase. Can't decide just how far I want to go. I've been looking hard at the HIfonics amps and leaning toward the 5 channel Zeus since I'm only going to be running the one 12....unless I go with two. Oh, it's killing me! I will be putting in the dash speakers and I guess running them with a P2002 that I already have. That's about all it's good for anyway. So, heres what I have in mind so far

Pioneer AVH-p4000dvd
Hifonics Hifonics ZXi8008 5 channel or Crunch P5000.5 for Doors and sub
Audiobahn ACS2062N 6.5's front and rear doors
Audiobahn AS31V 3.5's in the dash. Or the 4" RF Fanatics
RF p2002 for the dash speakers
JL 12w0 in a fox box.

So what do you think?

just remember that a 5 channel is a one shot deal, if you want to upgrade latter that mono channel will be useless you end up using the amp as a 4 channel anyway

Yeah, I've been thinking about that. I'll be running two separate amps. I'll mount one under the driver's seat, but where can I put the other one?

there is some install picks on older posts that can give you some ideas as were to place the amps
if you still thinking about the 5 channel this is the best you can get:

what price range are you trying to stay in on the amps?

I have always been partial to Precision Power or Kicker. If you are willing to spend the money.

To be honest I had 1 Lighting Audio 10 and a Sony 100 watt amp in my Protege5 (havent got it in my truck yet) and I consistantly was hitting about 135db. All of it was purchased at wal-mart. I wanted a cheap subsystem so I could spend more of performance.

Just my 2 cents.....

brand_x_racing what were you running during the db drag racing?

What was you highest db?

I had a Z-71 xcab with 6-JL 10W6's and 2 Precision Power A1200.2's. My max db was 158. The judges were impressed but said it should have done more. I traded it before I had a chance to fix the design.
