Maybe someone who knows more than me can help. I installed a 12"sub and 1000 watt amp but when I turn the volume up past 15 the sub stops hitting. When I turn the knob (FADE?) toward the rear slightly The I can turn the sub up as loud as I want. I'm just puzzled why it does this. Next question is how much air space do I need in a 10" sub box? Thanks in advance,

Randy

you are probably exeding the maximum input voltage of the amplifier.
Are you using the factory head unit? Any adapters?
The airspace needed for a sub depends on the sub parameters and of enclosure design.
if you give me the sub brand and model and type of box i can find out the proper air space

It was my brothers truck he has an 03 with the Infinity system. He used the factory HU with an adapter. The sub was a 12" rockford fosgate with a 1000 watt sony amp. How could he correct the problem?

The 10" sub I was asking about is a sony explode 1100 watt. I am going to build a box but I'm not sure how much air space I need. Thanks in advance.

the problem could be in the wiring to the adapter (meke sure the wiring polarity is correct) or the adapter gain control set to high(if available)
this is for a Sony XS-L104P5B
10" 4-ohm subwoofer
five-sided polypropylene cone with rubber surround
power range: 80-330 watts RMS (1,200 watts peak power)

frequency response: 18-2,500 Hz
sensitivity: 88 dB
top-mount depth: 5-15/16"
sealed box volume: 0.78 cubic feet
ported box volume: 0.91 cubic feet

Thats the speaker. Do you have any idea on what dimension the box needs to be. I would like to build a box similar to the ProBox. I like the look of the rhino lined box. What do think sounds better sealed or ported. I built a box a while ago but made a small hole for the port. It sounded terrible then I stuffed a shirt in the hole and it was better. I took the speaker out a few days ago and put three shirts in the funky corner I made in the box and it sounds pretty good now. I think my design was real bad. I tried to pattern it after the hole in the floor under the rear seats. Thanks for your help so far.

On this site you will find a basic enclosure calculation, very easy to use you can enter the boards sizes the speaker parameters and it will calculate the air space, port size etc.
have fun
