I would like to lose the stock antenna and replace it with either a powered one or an "under dash" one. No powered ones seem to be a direct replacement and the under dash ones have bad reviews (for reception). Any ideas?
I looked at 3rd Strike but can't get past the front page of his audio section... ;-)

You could always get a small dipole that tucks behind and above the rearview mirror... unless you have remote start.

Sadly the performance of your receiver will suffer greatly with an antenna other than the stock one.

Antennas use length, as capture area for the signal. Antenna mounted inside big metal box..ie your truck doesn't work very well.

The only signal ingress would be through the glass.

dunno

Another option is to get a stubby billet antenna (different lengths... 4", 6", 8") - they look great and offer very good reception.

You may ask Duane at 3rdstrike.com. He has an under dash ant. if I remember correctly. See what he thinks of the one he got.

Finally got this installed....works better than the outside antenna. I was able to pull the radio and it fit above the radio inside the dash, you will have to order an adapter to hook it up. 12.00 from Autozone. Very easy install....

Not bad, but not as good as one outside. Remember the old antenna in the windshield trick all the manufacturer's done about 10 years ago? Bout the same as those...
