Just finished putting a CB in the truck this morning...and was kinda shocked with plenty of foul-mouthed fun on the way to work this morning
Just wondering if anyone has mounted a PA speaker under the hood...what brand they bought, where and how they mounted it. Wheres the easiest place to run the wire through the firewall...etc... Im thinking of just getting the Radio Shack PA speaker and winging it after work...hoping for some insight! Thanks |

No extra amp needed unless you want a real blaster.
I've used a weatherproof extension speaker sold at most truckstops and mounted them behind the radiator support so that they were out of the severe weather and had no problems. It's been years, but I always mounted my PA speaker near the firewall and pointing down to keep the inside clean. The sound travels out from under the vehicle just fine.
If I remember correctly, there is a rubber grommet somewhere near the steering column shaft where you can pierce a hole with an awl and push the wires through. It's just so unfortunate with all the bucket-mouths on CB's today. I've gone to GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) and use them for convoys, etc. Pup ______________________________________________________________________________ '04 2500 SLT 4X4 QC/SB 3:73 - Extang Tonno - Weathertech floor liners & vent visors |

I ran my wires through the block off plate where the clutch assembly would be (unless you drive a stick shift vehicle) My buddy recommended that spot to me since he does installs all day long.

UPSTATENYHARDCOREHEMI...sorry it took so long, busy weekend....
I put the CB just under the right side of the steering column. Im 6'4" and it doesn't get in the way of my knees at all. The radio is a Cobra Ultra 19 III, about $40 at Walmart. Its not the strongest radio, but I liked it for its small size. The antenna I have on now is temporary, its just a magnet mount one from auto zone, about $20...theres one at walmart that looks exactly the same for $10, but doesnt work at all. Im eventually gonna put two firestick antennas in the bed. I initially put the antenna wire under the steering column and out the drivers side...but I got a lot of ignition noise in the radio, so I routed it under the dash out the passenger side. The bottom clip on the center console pops out really easily, and I put all the wires behind it. Near the door on the passenger side, the antenna wire fits nicely under the rubber molding. To power the radio I attached a 12v ciglighter adapter ($5 autozone) for convenience, but am eventually just gonna splice it into the wires behind the plug. The bottom outlet works nice because it doesnt shut off with the truck...so you can use it when the truck is off. This setup gives me about 10-15 miles of listening distance, but a lot less broadcast distance. Hopefully this increases with firesticks, but may need more powerful radio (not sure if these newer CBs can be peaked out like older ones). If you dont mind the language, and knowing the exact locations of all the best working women in the area,

also, I just hung the mic from the hook-of-unknown-purpose to the left of the glovebox...saved two big holes in the front of the dash

I mounted my Fire radio same place a GATech and mounted my siren head under the driver seat with the speaker on the cross member behind the grill right in front of the radiator. Puts all the sound forward and hides pretty well, about like the lights the guys have mounted there. I took my wires out through the wall by the parking break right up along the fender. No problems.

I thought CBs have been outdated by cell phones.
