Pulled up to a 98ish 3/4ton chevy on my way to school. Only known mod was dual exhaust. Had a feeling he was going to punch it so sure enough soon as the light turned green we were off. He kept up with me untill about 15or so but soon as that hemi hits the torque band i rocketed in front of him. Only had him by about a truck lenght up to around 60mph. Im sure i scared him too with no muffler on the truck right now. Stright pipe dumped under the truck

yes it was a vortec motor. Believe it was later replaced with the 8.1L in 2001

there was only 3 engine options for 98 3/4ton chevy's (i had a 2000 same body style). *most common was their Vortec 350 (was what i had) 255 horsepower and 330flbs tq *the Vortec 7400 (454) 290 hp and 410flbs tq) *chevy's 6.5 diesel was rated at 155-180hp and 360tq. *the 8.1 became available late in 2001, and has output ranges from 225 to 340 hp and torque from 350 to 455 ft·lb.
