What do you all think about Cooper tires? Better than stock Goodyear Wrangler HP tires? I was checking around and found that HP tires are basic tires that they throw on our trucks to sell....they are the worst ever and last only 24-30 miles top....when they are past 60 % thread wear and if you ran over anything hard you will blow those tires out...I have gone through 2 so far.....the cheapest quality tires I have ever seen.....found me some Cooper Discoverer HT Plus tires so I am not sure if they are better or worst.......
Good info on Cooper tires. This message has been edited. Last edited by: BlackDragonHemi, BlackDragonHemi '07 Dodge RAM 1500 5.7L Hemi MDS 4x4 QC Big Horn Edition |

my factory HP's lasted 60k miles replaced them with Cooper ZEON XST 305/50/20 and they have been fantastic for 30K miles and so far still got half tread left

sppb,
How do you fit 305/50x20 on your truck? Did you have any lift kit installed? Wow, you got 60k miles out of those Wrangler HP's is amazing, they are only made to get 30k max. That is why you never see mileage rating on these tires anywhere even on Goodyear web site. I guess you are the lucky one and one and only....glad you got your money's worth out of those junk tires. I read good postings on Cooper Discoverer HT Plus tires everywhere so I can't wait to get them on my truck and try them out. I am sure they'll be much better than Wrangler HP's. Thanks for your input! BlackDragonHemi '07 Dodge RAM 1500 5.7L Hemi MDS 4x4 QC Big Horn Edition |

I absolutely HATED both sets of Goodyears that came on both of my trucks when new. I exchanged it out at 25k because I honestly did not feel safe riding on them any more.
The last set I had on the truck was Cooper Zeon LTZ 275/60R20 and I absolutely loved them, however I only put about 15k miles on them before I sold the truck so I can't really speak for their tread life other than the fact that they still looked good. I've got a set of Pirelli Scorpions sitting in my garage I'm going to put on my Jeep within the next month; I read a lot of good reviews about them also. 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee HEMI http://artisan-contracting.com/index.html http://www.blex.com/index.php |

While I was in NM one of my front tire blew out, thank God I was going around 15 mph when that happen.....I would not want it to blow on me while the truck is going 50mph plus with my family in it...I will never buy another Wrangler HP's and will warn everyone about these tires....junks

i lost some mpg going to 305/50/20 they fit with no rubbing but if i had gone with the stock size i would have traction problems, i think Cooper is a great tire for the money, I'll definitely buy again.

Had the stock Goodyears on my 04 and they lasted all of 18k miles. Rotated them every 3-5k miles. Replaced them with Cooper HT 265/70-17 10 ply. I wanted the 10 ply because we tow a travel trailer plus they have a 60k mileage warranty on them. We put 32k on them again rotating them every 5k miles and they were about shot. The travel trailer weighs about 7k pounds and out of the 32k miles about 10k were towing. The rest were short trips and parking lot slow turns which we were told wears them out faster.
there is a huge difference between the Coopers and the Goodyears on my 09. I wish I had the extra $$ sitting around to justify putting the Coopers back on this truck. i highly recommend the brand and if you are doing mostly hiway driving the HT is a best buy especially with the warranty. 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 QC sunburst Orange 2005 Ford Mustang convertible red w/black top (wife's ride) 1998 Chevy Cavallier Black fading into primer (the winter ride) 3 Siberian Huskies 1.5 - 3.5 years old and a good ole dogsled. I have oriinal GoodYear's on my truck. I have 35,000 miles on mine and they don't appear to be to worn yet. But they really don't get good traction in sad at all. In front of my house is a dirt road (sand here in N.M.). there is a stop sign at that interesction and all to often I have to put my truck in 4 wheel drive in order to get going.
"sppb" It's good to hear that you are so happy with that particular tire. Because that is exactly the tires I have picked out as my future replacements. 2007 4X4 Quadcab Detonator Yellow Sport Hemi of coarse, rhino lined,EZ down, nerf bars, driving lights, one tap |

I picked them up earlier today and got them mounted....tires look very solid, they seem shorter than Wrangler HP's...I will measure them tomorrow to be sure....my daughter thinks they are exactly the same but who knows....I heard from many people that I will not be sorry to have these tires....if these tires are as good as they say then I am going to be Cooper Discoverer HT Plus customer from now on.....
I paid $110 each for Cooper Discoverer HT Plus tires from Tire Club in Tempe, AZ....if you find these tires for more you might want to check with Mike from Tire Club just let him know Steve with Silver Dodge RAM from AZ that just bought these tires refer you to him. What ply on the sidewall did you get? I believe they come in 4/6/10. I had about $800 in my 10 ply tires mounted, balanced and a tire warranty.

On the outside sidewall it will be listed in small print. I can't remember exactly where but i think around where the recommended pressure is. By the way, if they are the 10 ply I recommend running them at 60 PSI. I did and the tires wore absoluetly flat and even. The dealer i got them from said he would rais his to 80 for towing his trailer, I didn't find the need for that and left them at 60 towing or empty. If they aren't the 10 ply I would keep them towards the upper end of the ait pressure range. 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 QC sunburst Orange 2005 Ford Mustang convertible red w/black top (wife's ride) 1998 Chevy Cavallier Black fading into primer (the winter ride) 3 Siberian Huskies 1.5 - 3.5 years old and a good ole dogsled.
