I'm gonna be lifting my Hemi enough to tuck some new rubber under the wheel wells. Going with 35x12.50x17s. Driving will likely be 60% highway, 25% dirt/unimproved roads and 15% mudding/wheeling in Eastern North Carolina. Any suggestions for a tire? Currently have Dick Cepek F-C IIs to get me around.

If the Dick Cepeks have been working for you so far, I'd stick with them. There aren't too many tires out there that will perform as well in as many different types of terrain as the FC-II with its hybrid AT/MT design. You could also try the Toyo Open Country MT.

Lift and new tires are still about 6 months off... Gotta get out of Iraq and pick my truck up from my parents in Texas and get it back to NC before I start working on it... Got some projects underway right now... Hope that it will be ready in time for my dad to take some pics so I can submit it for TOTM Dec...

Anyone seen the Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs? We use them out here and I can guarantee that we put them through alot more hell than I would back in the states.

the MT/Rs are great tires... just a little pricey. these are 305/70/17s on my old 04.

Thanks for the pics. They looked great on your 04! Have you seen the "new and improved" design? The sidewalls are Kevlar reinforced and they have a more asymmetrical tread pattern. Someone said the rubber is a new compound too... For better traction in the rain. All I know is that we use and abuse these new MT/Rs and the older model as well! If you don't mind me asking, what was the per tire cost when you bought them? I found the new ones at $269 ea for 35x12.50x17s.

SSG 11Bang-Bang:
I know this post is late, but your choice of the F-C II's will work fine for your driving and off-roading in North Cacka-Lacky. They will be acceptable with the amount of sand and clay in area. I know the Eastern half of N.C. well, it was my "home" for quite awhile. Airborne! C. Belan SFC (Ret.) 18B40/18F40 p.s. 504,505, or 325? |

Hey SFC Long Tab!
Your post is not too late... I'm still in Iraq! The F-C IIs have done me right so far. I was only at Bragg for 2 months before deploying, but I spent 5 years in the Northern Virginia/DC/Maryland area. 2 of those years with the F-C IIs and they never failed whether I was pulling a big rig out of traffic (empty trailer, ran out of go-fuel) or yanking "trucks" out of the many beaches. I def can't wait to get back to explore Uwharrie/mountains/beaches and help all the "great" drivers that think their rigs can handle the sand/mud/rocks/etc. I'm 1-505... AIRBORNE! SSG Bridge 11B3P |

Probably gonna go with the Rough Country 5" suspension with the front skid plate to protect my hidden winch from trail abuse.
I've already been to one of the fishing holes around Bragg. One of the guys that my girlfriend works with got his truck stuck at Texas Lake and they called me at OH-DARK-THIRTY (him and his buddies were well past 3 sheets to the wind at this point) and gave me horrible directions to get there. About an hour later I finally arrived to find his lifted 2wd ford f-250 backed into the lake far enough that about 3/4 of his bed had water in it... They SWORE they were sober at this point... Either way, I enjoyed YANKING his truck out of the mud! |

We have a fleet of HMMWVs out here with the MT/Rs like madcat has. They were on the trucks long before we took them over and we have been using and abusing them for the past 9 months. It's ben freezing, raining, muddy, dry, hot (130+) and they are all still going strong! They can take some serious sidewall abuse too! As far as the new ones are concerned, they seem to be holding up just fine. We've only just started switching over to them as the older model gets blown off or suffers any other serious damage. We drive an average of 1500-2000 miles per month on 'improved' and dirt roads with a little travel on hard ball as well.
Hope this helps! |
