I noticed twice when parked on an incline for 30 minutes or so, on the next start up there is a loud ticking (sounds like no oil on the rockers) and then it goes away after a few seconds.

Today I was parked for 2 hours in a flat parking lot and it did the same thing. Ticked for about 5 seconds like it wasn't getting oil and then went away. I shut it off and turned the key and it turned over for about 3 seconds before it started back up.

Any ideas what the hell is going on? It's only got 50000 miles on it. I've used synthetic oils since the 3rd oil change and I only wait 5000 miles to change it even though its good for 7500.

Thoughts?

Nothing internal. So nothing that would affect the oiling.

Have u done anything external, to the oiling system? Does having MDS on, or off, make a difference? Does it sound like all lifters are making a noise, or just some?

Nothing external either. MDS is onbut I'm throwing an O2 sensor code so it doesn't come on.

Sounds like it's most of the lifters or rockers when it makes the noise.

I'm assuming that you do proper oil, and filter changes, and that the oil level is correct. I would install a mechanical oil pressure gage, to see what ya got.

I just changed my oil on Sunday. I have an '04 Hemi. I have had the truck for 1.5yrs. First oil change in it i did myself with no problems, the one last fall i took to a lube place and no problems. I change it sunday and i get done and i hear this ticking noise. I didin't think much about it but i did put it on Ramps to change the oil this time and I see Starchief has the same issue while he was parked on an incline.

I used Valvoline Full Synthetic and a FRAM Extra Guard Filter.

Any ideas guys??

Did you fill the new oil filter with oil before you put it on? My V6 used to do that if you didn't fill it with oil. It would only do it for about 3 seconds or so. Just like my hemi does sometimes now.

New oil always seems to tick more than slightly used oil.

Hyd. lifters have a check valve inside them, that is "supposed" to keep them from bleeding down. A worn out lifter, or ones with trash in them, can bleed down. It is my opinion, that some of the better synthetics are so good at penetrating, they work their way around the ck valve, when the engine is at rest, and the valve spring is trying to close any intake or ex. valve that are open. professor
