Just curious about rolling acceleration (WOT) say around the 50mph mark. Do the 4.56's and 4.10's have better or worse response?

Big Grin It is more about RPM's than MPH for a rolling WOT.

4.56 wins. thumb2

iagree Running at higher RPM's means you get into the powerband much quicker.

dunno it will depend on what rpm's they put you @ at 50mph, verses what gear... if say (and these are just examples) the 4.10s kick you down to 4800 in 2nd, and the 4.56s kick you down to 3rd at 3800... the 4.10s will get the jump (better overall gear ratio at this speed kick down). however... if you are not stuck with a specific mph rolling start, then finding the sweet spot (mph vs rpm) with 4.56s will give you an advantage over 4.10s at THAT speed, but this is all about where THEY (4.56s) pull the hardest... so the answer could go both ways.

You'll have more rmp left a few blocks up the street with the 4.10s. 4.56 should be a better launch with a heavy truck, but at 50mph, I assume you want to run it up to the governer, not just drop the pedal for 2 seconds and quit. You can leave another truck with the 4.56 and have that same truck pass you on top end if he has a lighter gear. Depends where in the ring you want to box.

Plus you may pull on the person with the 3.92s when you have 4.56s untill you hit 3rd then start to slow as the 3.92s continue to pull in 2nd. But I would assume once they hit 3rd also they will slow even greater then the 4.56s and the 4.56 truck will accelerate faster. But from 0 to 100 my money would be on 4.56's.

With our trucks I'd say 4.56 would always be quicker than 4.10s unless you were going from a stop. Unless you have full slicks or some bad ass street tires you'll never hook 4.56s up on the street. I just have bolt ons and I can't even floor my truck from a stop even if I don't stall it up and I only have 3.55s.

Also our trucks make peak torque and HP pretty high up. On older big blocks they make their torque in the lower RPMS. For them, a 3.90 gear would be better than a 4.56. If you make lots of torque down low and good hp up top you want to ride the torque band like a wave. The longer you're in it the better. You don't need it to wind up quickly. That's why an stock old Buick or Pontiac 455 with say 3.42 gears will stomp a modified small block chevy all day long with 4.10 gears.

All you need is a good set of street tires or "sticky" tires and you'll be fine. I have 4.56's in my truck and flooring it from a dead stop they would hook up everytime, I didn't even get a chirp out of the tirs with them.

Now with the new tq converter in its a different story.

I bet your long bed doesn't help you any. I have no problems. Just have to ease into it.

My stock good years hooked ok on rough, dry pavement. On slick pavement I could leave 2 black marks as long as I wanted to. In the rain they were dangerous, but on the track I ran like 14.81 with them with NO spin.

Whenever my BFGs wear out I'm definitely getting some street tires.
