I have a 2004 Hemi with an idle problem. The truck has 69,000 miles on it. When I come to a stop the idle will drop to 400 RPM then back to 600 RPM. It doesn't do it all the time but often enough to where I think it might stall. Any ideas what might be causing this? The only work I've had done recently is the transmission fluid and filters changed.

mine will drop rpms that far or lower sometimes when i let off the gas not all the time just sometimes and and once in a blue moon it will shut off. also when crusing like a around town at about 2000rpm it will like surge rpms start going up and down but if i let off or give it more gas it stops but if not it gets worse and worse.

Are there any trouble codes? Here's a TSB that addresses idling problems.

My '04 idled poorly, sputtered during acceleration, and wanted to stall often several months ago, checked my O2 sensors and found one defective. Replaced it and running 100%. Mine has 71K miles.

jordan-how did you come to the conclusion that your O2 sensor was bad? Was it a certain reading via a scanner or tuner(Superchips/Diablo)? Or,just testing the lines?

...back to the thread topic-I agree with trying to clean the throttle body and replacing your pcv valve as helpful items.

Does it do that on just after a cold startup? My 04 would start fine and stall when I got to the first traffic signal. It would re-fire and run fine after that. Coincidentally it was after I had the dealer change the trans fluid. I checked it and it wasn't registering on the dipstick after a 15 mile drive while idling in neutral like the dipstick said. I took it back in and they claimed it was a pint low (yeah, one pint...right). Check your trans fluid level.

All good advice. I'm going to start with the throttle body clean, PCV valve and check tranny fluid. Thanks!

I've dealt with faulty sensors in the past and just had a hunch that that's what it might be. I also had a pretty bad exhaust leak near one of the sensors so it was easy to narrow it down. It ran exactly like an old Chevy small block with a vacuum leak, is the best way to describe it. If I remember, those tuners allow you to check O2 sensor voltage and I'm sure that would help you pinpoint the problem, but I'm using SCT now so can't help there. thumb2
