Art and I have been considering the 260 cam over the 6.1 after Viper1
got his 260 installed. We started comparing the dyno's from
our Febuary dyno sheets considering the four below all had similiar
modifications with only a few differences. The main differences
we noted next to their names. The major exception to the mods is Lonnie
is the only person that didn't have OEM Exhaust Manifolds.

We checked respective HP at 3 different
RPM points on the sheets and here are the results:

Lonnie 05whitehemi 05' 260 Cam w/shorties+cutouts/slicks/short belt
4000=250
5000=322
6000=320

Fred chefred12 05' 6.1 Cam w/street tires/no headers/short belt
4000=246
5000=308
6000=332

Kenny KB112 05' 6.1 Cam w/street tires/no headers/no short belt or e-fan
4000=237 (12HP for short belt=249)
5000=293 (12HP for short belt=305)
5400=305 (12HP for short belt=317)
*didn't hit 6000, but looks to trend to about 330 with short belt

Art BigART 03' (Single Cat on 03's) 6.1 Cam w/street tires/torque converter/short belt
4000=228
5000=285
6000=312

We had two trucks with 2003 single cat systems. You can see that the
single cat hurts overall performance due to a lack of flow compared
with 04' and Up with dual cats. Or it may be a tuning issue due to a
different computer on the 03's. Who knows, it could be a combination of both.
Art had all the same mods as Fred and stayed within 20HP of Fred.

You can also see by the numbers that the 6.1 vs 260 put out similiar HP
numbers at the same RPM ranges.

The Comp 260 based on dyno and user opinions puts out better low end and mid-range and a flatter
HP curve.

The 6.1 puts out better HP at higher RPM's and has a more traditional slope.

When at the track during shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd the RPM's drop to about 4000
and that's when both cams produce good power.

The day before the dyno day we all went to Sacramento Raceway to run 1/4's.

Lonnie's best was a 13.9
e-fan, short belt, Comp 260, DRAG RADIALS and SHORTIES w/CUTOUTS

Fred's best was a 14.6 with out headers.
e-fan, short belt, 6.1 Cam, STREET Tires

After Fred installed LT's he ran consistant 14.1's and 14.2's with:
e-fan, short belt, 6.1 Cam, STREET TIRES and Long Tube w/out cutouts

Based on Freds new best and Lonnie's best it looks like theres little to
no difference at the track for 6.1 vs 260 Cam.

We'll see what happens when Fred get's to run on drag radials along with myself and BigART.
Based on user experience SLICKS make 3-4 tenths better times at the track.

Now that I have longtubes like Fred though ill easily do a 13.7 maybe a 13.6 up there which is where everyone should be at give or take.

Also If you were able to go down to like 2000 rpms then you will see a big difference in the tq. Also If you look at my tq at 3800 rpms then you will see that if the dyno guy had hit the button a little later that my torque would be 320 + @ 3800 and lower.

...this is like science class...each time we go to the track we're collecting new data....I'm hopin Lonnie and I stay close to each other...me with my new dr's and him with his new lt's... I can see in short races where the 260 can have an advantage based on user opinions about it's low and mid range performance...with that said, in a race where we spend alot of time in the upper rpm ranges, the 6.1 flexes it's muscle from 4000 rpms and higher...

Scott and I already stated the 260 puts better #'s down low-mid. But at high the 6.1 is a little better.

Your dyno compared to Freds are so close even considering you were the only one that had headers is evidence to me that what has been stated above is pretty straight forward.

Also you being on drag radials and lighter wheels having less rotational mass then the rest of us would slightly inflate your numbers on the dyno compared to a stock wheel setup.

Also, I really dont even care about dyno numbers that much. Ive seen many people dyno lower and still beat the other guy in time. All I care about is the track. We cant even really compare track times till we are all at the same place at the same time. Man It is gonna be fun when Dave And I come up there and we are all in the 13s!!!!!!!

I agree with you about dyno's and actual ET's at the track because it looks like if you stayed with shorties and slicks and Fred now has LT's and slicks he'd beat you hands down.

I think 13.7's with yours and Freds setup is totally realistic.

It would all be equal if we all were about the same vehicle weight. I know my truck is heavier then the rest of ours and just about as heavy as Russ's. I can calculate weight out of the ET's, but I think the toneau conver is coming off next time.

maybe I will fit in there somewhere with you guys pretty soon?
Uncle Sam was "good" to me this year, and after hearing Scotts reviews of his heads, I am now seriously pondering the idea of some new Sharadon Big Valve heads myself? Hmmm?
Heads, cam, headers, new intake, and exhaust, maybe I may give you all some friendly competition, with this stock height Q-cab? Only time will tell? summer is going to be FUN this year! especially since we should all be in the 13's N/A.
