So, all stock it ran 15.64 @ 85.0mph with a 2.268 60ft.

I installed a K&N CAI, Magnaflow custom cat back, custom Y-pipe, Diablo with 93 tune, synthetic oil, and I removed the tailgate and spare tire.

The first run was a 15.017 @ 88.93mph with a 2.221 60ft. The second pass was my 14.998 @ 89.45mph with a 2.238 60ft.

I am glad I hit the 14's, but I was hoping for a little more out of the mods. The conditions were better yesterday as well and were probably worth a tenth or two. There was an all stock 08 Hemi Quad cab that ran 15.46 @ 86mph.

My other runs were a 15.07, 15.10, and 15.14. All of these were right around 89mph. I was hoping to get the 60ft down more, but it didn't want to launch any better. I tried anywhere from 1200rpm to 2000rpm and it seemed to like something in the middle the best.

I checked the Diablo datalog and it is giving it MUCH more timing off the line, but it didn't help much in the ET. I don't get it.

..where you getting wheel-hop or were you spinning out of the hole? All in all,did you kick the 5.3 chevy's ass? I know that is the question on everyone else's mind.

..on a side note,I did see the Pinks all out-takes and Pink's allout. Believe it or not, before you posted up a couple of days ago,I thought when there was a guy that said-'I just dropped off my kids(with a shot of the childs seat in the back)',the first person I thought of was you...also,a buddy of mine was in the top 16-before they were pitted against the underdogs. He was knocked out in the first round-he had the white Ford maverick in the left lane. He usually runs 10.04's to 10.10's.

No, I was hooking. It just felt really soft off the line. I think that is because I was tense on the line and expecting the launch that my Mustang does, so the Ram's launch felt disappointing. Launching next to an open header 10 second car makes you feel a little slow too! It felt great on the return road when I did a practice launch and it would spin like crazy off the strip if I tried to stall it up too high.

I did beat the Chevy. I posted that under that topic. I will add a video under that topic tomorrow.

i KNOW IM HAVING FUN WHOOPIN ON THE 5.3'S

GOOD RUN, I KNOW MY TRAP SPEED IS 92 TO 93MPH BUT IM ALOT SLOWER ON THE BOTTOM END TAKES A BIT TO GET THIS BEAST ROLLING.

I DONT STALL TILL THE OTHER IS ON SECOND LIGHT STAGE, IF YOU HOLD IT THERE TOO LONG I THINK THE COMPUTER GOES INTO CLOSED LOOP, SOME FIND IT BETTER TO LAUNCH FROM NO STALL, I MYSELF RATHER LEAVE STALLED UP ABOUT 1500 MYSELF, AND I HAVE A 14.99 TRUCK ALSO. .022 REACTION SO I AM GETTING MY BULLET FIGURED OUT. NO NEED TO TENSE UP, ITS A HEMI NOT A PROSTOCK. SORRY THATS A QUOTE THAT IS REMEMBERED FROM ONE OF OUR TEXAS MEMBERS!

I was making sure I didn't stall it too long, they definitely don't like that. I think the computer wigs out and pulls timing. On one pass I even waited until my first amber to stall it up, but that screwed up my reaction and the 60ft didn't improve. I was running in the trophy class and they allow 10 second open header cars in there. I couldn't hear anything next to those guys on their transbrakes. I thought I may have been spinning on the first pass cause it took off slow and I couldn't hear jack. I just watched the tach but it looked like it hooked. I watched a video my cousin took and there was no wheel spin. It may have bogged but I couldn't hear it. I was afraid to stall it up too much because it was spinning a lot on the approach to the line.

Brand_X, what gears do you have and where is your 2-3 shift point? I was thinking I might be able to hit 90mph if I kept it in 2nd a little longer, but it starts dropping off. I had my 1-2 at 5850 and my 2-3 at 5750. I was thinking you might have the 3.55's cause it would not come off the line as well but should mph better if you can keep it in 2nd across the finish line. My truck struggles at 80mph when it shifts to 3rd so close to the finish line. On the highway in 2nd prime it pulls a lot better from 80-90mph than it does in 3rd from 80-90mph.

i HAVE 3.55'S AND RUNNING 5900 1-2 AND A 5800 2-3. I RAN MY 14.99 HOLDING 2ND THROUGH THE TRAPS, TURNING 6100 RPM.

THATS A BIG THING WHEN YOU CANT HEAR YOUR MOTOR OR WHAT YOUR DOING IT DOSENT HELP HAVING 10.5 CLASS RUNING WITH YOU.

MINE DOES LAUNCH HARD, A FYI TO GET A LITTLE MORE CONTROL AND LESS SPRING WRAP ON LAUNCH AND SHIFTS CLAMPING LEAF SPRINGS OVERLOAD TO REST OF SPRING PACK, ON THE FRONT SIDE ONLY WILL SHAVE .10 NORMALLY, THE SPRING WRAP ON THESE TRUCKS IS NOT COOL.

THE 3RD SHIFT ON 3.92 DEFF DOES HURT CAUSE ITS NOT ENOUGH TO GET BACK IN POWER BAND TO HIT THE SWEET SPOT, HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT 17" SPARE RIMS WITH SOME SLICKS OR DRAG RADIALS? IF YOU CAN GET DOWN TO A 27 OR 25" TIRE WILL HELP YOU OUT IN MY OPINION!

IVE FOUND BETTER NUMBERS WITH TAILGATE ON THAN OFF, AND I HAVE TRACTION ISSUES WITH ANYTHING TAKEN OFF THE TRUCK! IT LOVES TO BE HEAVY! beer

I was thinking about moving my shift points up 50rpm, which would put me right where you are. I thought you must have the 3.55's. It is going to be tough to break 90mph with this thing. I may try again in March, but I will have step bars on it then and I will leave the gate on. It looks much better with the gate on as well. There is also almost always a strong head wind during the Wednesday night stuff, which is why I wanted to run it on the weekend for my quest to hit the 14's.

If I was going to race it more, I would want some low profile 17's. I wouldn't doubt it if I would drop 4 tenths with the lower overall gearing and less rotating mass.

I posted a video of my run against the Chevy on my other topic. You can't see the tach, but you can hear how much the rpm drops on the shift to 3rd. It is going 80mph under 4k rpm. Maybe I will try to get a video of my 1st run which had my best 60ft. I filmed the tach and I launched right at 1500rpm. You can see the 10 second guy pulling hard away from me.

Brand_X-do you leave the tailgate up or down on your runs? I would think down would be better weight distribution and up would be better for some drag.

I leave my tailgate UP, watched people do things like taking tailgate off, or remove spare, LOL, but I leave as much weight on the rear as possible.

With tailgate down I have gotten worse gas mileage and didnt see any difference in times. Thats my testing, tailgate down would maybee help on weight distrubution but only way to see that is to play around on a set of scales for a day, and might be an interesting idea!

Hey it made for a cool smoke show though. I ran a 15.06 or .08 not sure cant find my slip. Anyway iwas at 90.05 mph at that time. I also had 4.56 gears and my 60 ft was 2.21xx. Starnge thing though is I remember all my trap speeds were slower than yours by 2 mph but I got there quicker, but my speed was faster on the 1/4th but slower time. Confused Guess my slow ass shifts and me being able to accelerate thru 3rd is the colprate. Everything I tried that day wasnt working. Take weight off, would spin like crazy but was too heavy, added weight got better traction but was to slow, lol. I bet with 17s and slicks and weight removed i could get .3 better on my ET or more.
Comparing my times to need-a-cages btw.

congrats In the past years of racing p/u's, I have found, for me, to remove tailgate.
I have tested with tg up,at 45*angle, down flat, and removed. I go by my timeslips!

This winter when track is open I plan on testing severl things out on this p/u. I have put my granddaughter in drivers seat and I will be watching! I have already changed my cai 14 times since '03. Plan on several more times this winter.

Have Fun and stay safe!
