I ran my quickest and fastest run yesterday. I ran 14.835 @ 89.96mph with a 2.152 60ft. The conditions were very similar to when I ran my 14.97, but this time I had the Edelbrock shorties. It was 60 degrees with a strong headwind. The wind did die down a little on the 14.83 run. It ran a 14.91 and a 14.899 as well with a stronger wind, so I think the headers gave it close to a tenth. I think the headers gave it more off the line because my first two runs were in the 15.0's because I kept spinning. I had to launch it down around 1200 rpm to keep from spinning and then I got a 2.149, 2.152, and 2.161 60ft. My previous best was 2.169 and I had to launch it at a higher rpm. This was with the tailgate, spare, and bedmat removed and a short belt installed.
The thing that really pisses me off is that I got my reaction times looking really good. I had a .070, .055, and .033. The wind came up strong again after the 14.83 so I dialed a 14.89. I ran 14.899 but I red lit!!! I am still pissed. The guy ran a tenth off his dial and had a .193 reaction. I could have been super late on the light and still beat him. I did get my best ET though and I learned that my truck likes to hold 2nd gear longer. The longer I can delay that shift to 3rd the better. I think I have my shift point set at 5730 and it just hits a wall when it shifts to 3rd. I held it in 2nd until about 6k and my speed went up 1.3mph. I know the wind was just as strong because my 1/8 mph was a little down and then my 1/4 was 1.3mph up when I held the gear. That time I actually held it to 6200 and then freaked out and shifted it. I was waiting for it to override my manual shift to 2nd and upshift to 3rd but it was about to hit the limiter. Maybe the Diablo doesn't upshift if you hold it in the lower gears? Anyway, I think I am going to increase my 1-2 and 2-3 shifts to 5950rpm or 6000rpm. It just feels like it planes out too much before it shifts, but I guess it enters the next gear at a much better rpm so it more than makes up for going past the peak power rpm so far. I am going to run it again at the end of next month with the little drag radials on it and increased shift points during a weekend event when you usually have a run with no head wind and see if I can get a 14.7 and break 90mph. I am also going to put my cousin's wideband on it and see if I can dial in the AFR better. I think the Diablo is showing high 11's for the commanded AFR and that seems a little rich for an NA application. Craig This message has been edited. Congrats on the new Personal Best!
![]() don't worry about shifting too high. I shift at 6400 rpms and I am still on stock bottom end. I've read a lot of guys spin that high or higher with no forged internals on their enginges. here's a short vid: see the shift points... http://www.youtube.com/user/he...#p/a/u/1/fgPgAncpFfY ____________________________________________________ MY RIDE 2004 1500 Hemi RCSB\Inertia Motorsports Spartan Cam\Inertia Motorsports CNC Ported 5.7 Heads\AEM Wideband A/F Gauge\SCT TUNED\Flex-A-Lite Electric Fan\180 Thermostat\Shorty Taylor Wires\NGK 5306 Plugs\aFe Cold Air Intake System\Long Tube Pacesetter Headers\Cat Delete\Dual DMH Electric Cutouts\Magnaflow X Pipe\True Duals with 2 AeroTurbine 3030's dumped\Motive 4.56 Gears with LSD\SharaDon Performance Stage II Transmission with Stage III Valve Body\Edge 3000 Billet Torque Converter\Cal Tracs\McGaughy's 2/4 Drop Click here for pics and couple vid's of my truck! |

I was pretty happy with the 14.83 after I watched a 6 speed SRT Challenger run the same time! I went over and talked to the guy and both of his passes were high 14's at 99mph! I gave him a bunch of advice on how to launch the car so I hope he did better on his next pass. He kept taking off way too hard and just sat there spinning. It was so hard for me not to yell at him and tell him that he is embarrasing the MOPAR guys. LOL! He was pretty cool and was having a great time. I love those cars. They are so much nicer than the new Camaro's, it is just too bad they aren't as quick. A friend of a friend bought one and he used to race a Mustang like mine and I know he can drive so I can't wait to see what he can do with the 6 speed SRT. The auto's seem to run around a 13.4.
The guy out there in the new Camaro 6spd can drive pretty well. After I saw how close he was to the finish line when he shifted to 4th, I told him to hold 3rd and he picked up 2mph and is now running 12.8 @ 109mph! All he has done is remove 1 of the extra mufflers. It sounds good and is still really quiet. 06 QC SLT Big Horn Hemi 2wd 20's,3.92's, Magnaflow, custom Y, Diablo, Edelbrock Shorties, modified K&N CAI. 14.83 @ 89.96 mph (short belt, no gate or spare) 93 Stroked and Blown Mustang 10.84 @ 128.5mph 02 4x4 Explorer 4.6L XLT 3.73 limited slip, Magnaflow, modified airbox with K&N 15.3 @ 86.5mph |
