REMOVAL
(1) Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
(2) Remove the brake line mounting nut and
remove the brake line from the sensor stud.
(3) Remove the mounting stud from the sensor and
shield (Fig. 4).
(4) Remove the sensor and shield from the differential housing.
(5) Disconnect the sensor wire harness and remove the sensor.

This is out of the '03 manual. Page 5-42 (brake section). The manual has a picture (it wouldn't copy over) showing the location. Left side of the driveline in front.

Your ABS & Parking brake lights on?
Hope this helps.

JG

Funny thing is, a bad speed sensor will actually make your ABS light come on also, since it uses that info to help with the pressure applied by the brakes....

So what have we learned in 2 millennia?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. It will make you light come on however it does not affect your normal braking ability. If you have an ABS problem (light) the ABS system stops working. It's a fail safe to keep things from getting real ugly over a simple sensor. Can you imagine if you had a bad sensor and everytime you tried to stop the ABS would engage? Big issues.
The rear speed sensor as well as the sensors on the front wheels (if you have 4 wheel ABS) feed into your ABS module which does it's job. The signal also feeds through to your computer where it comtrols your speedo. It does not affect your shift points as there is a sensor on the trans for that.
Just some info.

The abs speed sensor is simply an input to the ABS module that the wheel is locked up and there are valves and solenoids that actually control the braking the spee sensor itself doesnt directly relate to Pressure simply an apply hold release. The sensor sees the flat signal that the wheel is locked so it will release(dump) apply (isolate) hold and then dump again until it is no longer needed. And that sensor is super easy to get off no need to jack up anything, just get under your truck take what i think is a 14mm deep socket and i cant remember the other size for the line mount ,but it is simple, just remove the line mount get the brake line out of the way take the stud off the sensor then pop out the sensor some times they get enough metal shavings on them that they build up on the sensor and then get broken off inside the diff.
