Has anyone replaced their rear pinion seal with a seal from Advanced Auto Parts? On their website they show they're SKF brand. We us a lot of SKF bearings and seals at work and I was wondering if these were better than the dealer item or the same. I checked with the dealer about replacing it under extended warranty (7/70) as I have about 4k miles left on it. I would have a $100 deductible for replacing an $8 part. The service manager told me if I could do it myself (which I can) It'd be a lot more cost effective in the long run because the part/labor would be nowhere close to $100.

I've always had good luck with SKF seals.

Rebuilt the 8.25 rear in my Road Runner two years ago and no issues.

Go for it.

Ok this is not helping my view of the Dodge.

My 2008 Ram 1500 has 1500 miles on it. It is making a high pitch squeaking noise coming from the rear end. Took the truck to the dealer and they tell me my rear pinion is bad and they have to replace it. I have owned Ford's my whole life and have never had that happen to me. Is this just a fluke thing or common on a new Dodge? Help me out here fellas!

Fluke,.. somethings can go wrong during initial build, and until things go through their paces you won't know.

Thats why we have warranties,.. major things will generally go wrong within a certain amount of mileage.

Had mine done over a month ago. Took it to the dealer. Instead of going under the warranty with the $100.00 deduct. we did it as no warr. and it was around $80.00.

While the shop was putting on my Maghytec differential cover, I discovered oil on my tank and rear exhaust. Pinion seal was leaking so I had them put a new one on. Part was $16.20, labor $20.00. No big deal, seals leak sometimes and go bad. It can happen on any vehicle.
