So I've had a noise coming from the front of the truck lately, and its only when its in 4 wheel drive. It works fine, but when I take a turn it makes a bad howl. Its worse at lower speeds. It does it on pavement and in the snow. It certainly sounds like some metal on metal contact. Its not a squeal or a clicking, but a constant rusty metal sound.

Recap:

-from the front wheels/axles somewhere
-only in 4 wheel drive
-only when turning

Any similar problems with you guys?

What would cause it? I think the only thing I've done is put royal purples stuff in it. But I don't remember if it started before or after that. Are there any proprietary mopar additives that need to be in it regardless of oil brand?

afteamroper, I've been told by many sources that its a good idea to use 4 wheel drive occasionally, when you can use it safely without damage (i.e. on dry pavement and turning a lot)

Not sure how true that is, but I've been told to use it like twice a month and do some figure eights on a slicker surface like dirt just to keep it working right. I guess its like a "use it or lose it" deal. When the time comes, not using it and then suddenly using it can cause excess wear or problems.I'm not entirely sure. These are mechanics mind you, not just some people.

Just thought I would mention it in case its true, so you can stretch its legs, so to speak. Smiler
