Hey guys, so for about the last year I have had some slight creaking sounds coming from the front driver side of the truck and over the last month its gotten steadily worse (the sound). The creaking/clicking sound happens more when I am turning the truck and the truck leans into the turn, it will also occur when I back out of my slight inclined driveway onto the road.

Any ideas what may be causing this? I have a 2003 DR Quad Cab, 2 wheel drive, 2500, short bed. I replaced my shocks about 10k miles ago thinking this might help reduce the instances of it, but that didnt help.

I'm having the same issue with mine. It only happens when I'm backing out of a parking spot and turning the wheels sharply...

It's been doing it since I got it (march w/ 44,xxx miles) and now it's rolled over 50,xxx miles and it's kinda stopped, but it still happens every once in a while.

LOL, i know its the suspension. I wonder if its the springs rubbing, I checked the control arms for wear, and the tie rods to see if the rubber spacers were broken, but they look in good shape.

Yeah, everything looks fine on mine, but I get that clickety sound when I'm cranking on the wheel to turn it.... But it only happens when I'm moving VERY slow or not at all.

Someone is bound to know what it is.

Mine used to be the same way, only at very slow driving, now I can hear it while I am driving and turning.

See, mine is doing the opposite thing. Mine used to be bad, but now it's happening less and less as times goes by.

Weird.

Congradulations, you have a F'ed up bushing. Diagnosing it can be a real pain, even if you have a guy under there trying to figure out just where the sound is coming from. Does your truck squeek when you jump up and down on the bumper? Put a jack under the wishbone, now jump up and down on it. Notice sound? Probably not. You say you notice it most when you turn? Probably has to do with a bushing relative to turning, you think? Of course, don't take my advise since I'm mildly retarted.

What you need to do Chief is to go to your hardware store and buy a needle to go into the end of your greese gun. Once you're locked and loaded, get your fat ass under your truck and push that needle into the little booty surrounding that turning bushing. I don't know how to describe it but it'll punch you in the face when you're under there. When you turn your wheel, it is the bushing your wheel turns around (bolt is positioned up and down at the end of the wishbone I believe). After your greese that turd up, clean the hole off of all greese then put a spec of superglue over the whole. Since it is near Christmas, do the upper bushings too.

There you have it sunshine, squeek should be gone within the week.

May not be today's problem, but watch out for cracking and tinny noises that sound like brake part issues without the reduced braking. Found a bearing/hub assembly bad on mine. Only heard it at lower speeds and eventually developed into grinding on turns with the additional clatter. $274 each side and 30min to install.

Back side of the bearing/hub assembly. The wire is for the ABS sensor. Can remove it and use yours, but my truck is an 03 and I just changed it out las week. Why gamble. I did not love that 3 bolts hold the whole wheel, roter and all to the truck, but found out that the Ford and GM(Greatest Mistake) have a similar design and I guess the older style really relied on the spindle nut alone. I'll do the right side when the one in the house with no job gives me permission to spend my paycheck to protect my safety.

Was actually expecting to find a bad rotor and other fun stuff. Proceded to tear it down. Once the front end was in the air, I grabbed the tire to see how many free spins it would go(my brake/resistance test). I could feel abnormal play in it, that caused me to try moving it vertical and horizontal. Now, I will always do this free and quick check anytime it is in the air.
