Hi everyone,

Here is another question. I have 3.55 and I am going to upgrade to 4.56 and 120hp(spray) .(17 inch rims, 31.5 inch tires). Will I run out of pavement in 3rd gear in the 1/4 mile.
And if so should i stick with 4.10?

Thank you in advance.
John

possible.. i know that some guys running 4.56's and 27" drag radials, where starting to bump the redline pretty hard in the 1/8 in 3rd, and they run mostly all motor. Some of them went back to 4.10s, and are actually running as fast, if not faster believe it or not!

iagree-a few guys out here(in California)had switched out from 4.56's to 4.10's for the 1/4 mile. I believe most of them are running a 28" tall/ 17"dia. tire combo.

I think with your tall tires you should be OK with 4:56 unless you have a lightened up reg cab.

hey Tony-I believe they changed out to the 4.10's becuase it put there engines in a better powerband for the mods that they had at the time. Hopefully Fred(chefred112)will chime in and give a more detailed reason for this swap.

The trick is to keep the engine in the powerband and cross the traps as close to the peak as possible.

While low gearing helps lower your et,running out of the powerband a couple of hundred feet before the traps doesn't do you much good.

Getting the right combination is the key and takes time and money sadly enough...

Look online for a calculator. Input your gearing, trans gearing, RPM and tire size and it will give you your MPH

I have 3.55 and 27" drag radials and I barely hit 3rd in the 1/4. I think you would get into 4th with 4.56 gears

With your mods you will not go into 4th gear. Unless you started to spray also. Then that may be different.

That says you'll get 123 mph out of 3rd gear

After using that site it seems we may have to factor in torque converter slip. It seems to be fast by a few mph in first and slow by 4 in 2nd.
