Guys i posted my original question in the general forum. This is an attempt to explain with pictures and other files exactly what I am trying to do and get your advice about how to do it and If it should be done.

I really want to add a 35hp dry shot "zex safe shot" to my brand new 2009 hemi ram 4x4. I want to be able to easily remove the bottle, solenoid, supply line and nozzle when it needs to go to the dealership. My last truck was a 2005 Ram Hemi i owned for over 4 years. I drove it every day all day like i stole it and i NEVER had to take it to the dealer for service.

However if the tranny goes out at 20,000 miles I dont want to have to pay for a new one just because i hit a 35hp shot of n20 once a month. I think i have found an easy way to do this but im not sure.

I already have a Predator and have been data logging the 93oct tune to eliminate long term knk retard and short term knk retard. If i add nitrous i will drop down to the 89oct tune. Im running 93oct fuel but none of it is very good and ive had to richen the f/a to lower knk retard. Its running rich as hell right now but i have been too busy to fix it.

Below is a link to a spreadsheet showing my last WOT predator data logging run.

Predator Spreadsheet

The photos on the link below show what i want to do.

Pictures of what i want to do

The first photo has about 3 questions typed on it. i.e. where does nozzle go etc?

The rest of the photos are the hard part. Under and behind the rear seat are full of amps and speakers so I cant mount the bottle there. I would like to mount a bottle in the space shown. The Safe Shot Kit comes with a 5 lb bottle that I'm sure wont fit.(BTW nowhere on Zex's web site do they list the dimensions of their bottles!)Do you guys think i could run a 2 lb bottle? if the pressure is the same do you see any problems with this? Does anyone know the dimensions of a 2 lb bottle with the regulator and valve?

Last 2 questions I promise. When i turn the bottle off after using it how do you purge the line? I dont want a purge valve is there a relief valve on the solenoid or the regulator?
Finally If i turn the bottle on in the morning and left it on for several hours and the solenoid failed under pressure does the solenoid allow the n20 to vent to atmosphere (under the hood) or into the intake when it fails? It would really suck to come out to my truck and start it up only to find that the solenoid failed while i was gone and 2 lbs of n2o have filled up the intake manifold.

Thanks for any help you can give and I'm very sorry for the super long post.

Welcome!

Let me start the disscussion with this.

If you are looking for only 35 hp, n2o is not the way to do it. A good set of ceramic coated headers and a free flowing exhaust system will give you that at the rear wheels.

Its decision time: Normally aspirated or N2o?

As i haven't been into doing the research on the 09 motor, I am at somewhat of a loss at this point.

I would never, ever use any type of "DRY" shot on these motors. No matter how much extra fuel you think you can throw at with your programmer.

The wet shots are the safest by far, the added raw fuel chemically "buffers" the shot, making it more stable. It requires some tuning the old fashioned way, by jetting changes. The end results are much better and safer.

Along with this, you still need to upgrade the exhaust, and will the added cylinder pressures, the better the flow the less stress on the engine internals.

Trans issues: Not as a general rule ...if you

DON'T
Spray below 2500 rpms
Spray on a forced downshift at highway speeds
Spray into 4th gear where the clutches are too small to handle the load.

A 100 shot would give you your best performance gain. Your 0-60 would drop by about a full second and your 1/4 mile .8 to 1 sec depending on track conditions.

I have over 200+ nitrous runs on my truck with a stock tranny and no issues.

I have gone about as far as I feel is needed at this time and have proved my point of putting a 5800 lb 4x4 QC into the low 13's.

I have embarrassed many a so called fast car or truck with mine and enjoyed every minute of it.

At some point things will start to wear out, break ect. And as I will have this truck for a long time, punishing it is not part of the long term plan.

We can go on if you so desire, but think about where you want to go and how much you really want to do it before you start.

George

Thanks for the info, As your the second person on the forum to say dont shoot dry and not worth it for 35hp I guess I will have to consider getting more hp the old fashioned way. I was told by someone (not a reliable source) that any changes to the exhaust system forward of the catalytic converters would void the warranty. Is this true? If Not Would installing headers on the stock exhaust really help that much? Im willing to replace the entire exhaust but I'm pretty sure that any change to the catalytic coverters will void the warranty. Too bad mopar doesnt make a factory blower for the truck like toyota trd does. I drive this truck all day every day for work and I usually keep them for 4 or 5 years. Although with the current social climate towards fuel efficient cars there might not be a truck for sale that i would be willing to own in 4 to 5 years. To quote a line from Mad Max this might be "The last of the V8 interceptors".

So lets say its your truck, It's new with 5000 miles. You LOVE going fast and pulling hard off the line. You have the money to spend on upgrades and tweeking the truck is your current hobby. What would you do?

Thanks for everones help. I must say that short of the pilot community this forum has some of the nicest people of any forum I have been on.

Thanks LRoss

I think that you would be pleasantly surprised at the results that good headers and exhaust from the cats back will make.

Once the ECM relearns the required fuel curve, better economy and performance will result.

So, without too much grief, you can be around an honest 425 hp up from the stock 390.

Life is good.

As long as the cats and the original sensors are retained and not altered you should have no warranty issues.

D500 and others Thanks for taking the time to educate me. Looks like i will be searching for a set of headers that will fit a 2009 4x4 and a magnaflow exhaust.

I have another Stupid question. These trucks seem to run much better when the weather is colder. cold here is 65-70 degrees F. Why couldnt someone take a sealed CAI air Box and place a small evaporator with the freon lines T-ed off the A/C compressor in front of the air inlet on the CAI? I know with the air only making one pass across the evaporator it would only drop the temp ~10 degrees but it would also remove some humidity (which is good right?). I guess at idle or low engine rpm the evaporator could possibily freeze up but you could control that problem with the a/c on-off button on the dash. I'm sure this is a dumb idea and if it would work someone would have already done it, I'm just wondering why it wouldt work.
Thanks

it may work but cost for HP gain is not worth it. Headers, exhaust, a lower set of gears, free flowing intake and a good programmer is about all you need to go faster. If you want to step up to juice do it right and spend the money. After that you are looking at STS turbo or one of the superchargers that are out.
And remember, there is NEVER a stupid question or idea, some of the best mods came from the " why can't we???" questions.

Good luck and keep us informed on progress.
