I had the same issue with mine. I was pretty aggressive with the removal though. Would do it differently the next time. I used gasoline.... Big Grin

I JUST finished doing my doors...Just cut the letters off with fishing line, pick the remaining black gunk off with your fingernail, then squirt some "Oops" on it and use a cotton t-shirt type rag and a bit of elbow grease to get the clear residue off. THEN, if you have any stains left, wash the area, then use some of the liquid ice liquid clay bar stuff...it takes everything right off and it comes out perfect...

One thing you SHOULD NOT use is those Mr. Clean Magic erasers. I tested it first on a small spot trying to get the stains off, and it works but it scuffs the clear coat just enough to make it look a tad foggy...Use the liquid clay bar instead...

Glad yours turned out great. Started doing mine today, and found that there is ALOT of surface rust under the lettering on the tailgate. Not sure if I want to continue doing the rest of the truck now. It looks like the lettering is still on the truck, and really looks like sh*t! Anyone else have this issue doing theirs?

Thanks,

Mike

Try using a claybar or some rubbing compound. That should come right out.

RubberFrog:

Tried that, it is actually bad enought that when looking at it, the spot where 4x4 and SLT were, is raised up, and rusted underneath the paint. I have found out that my truck was in an accident prior to me getting it, and Carfax did not even have it listed as being in an accident. The tailgate has the paint chipping off by the handle anyway, so I am just going to get it re-painted, or respray the entire truck anyway. I did get the drivers side done, and had no problems, only a slight "yellow" tint where the letters used to be, but cant really see it.

I've been away a while so I thought I'd try to add something to the forum.

Decided I'd go the debadge route. O'Reillys had the eraser wheel as a non-stock item for $22. Then I found some stuff called Kleen Strip.

After going thru what seemed like tons of fishing line, and dental floss, I opted for this nylon string you can pick up at Lowe's (cuts thru it like a knife thru butter, without breakage).

I couldn't find my plastic putty knives so I grabbed an ice scraper and deburred it.

It took several rounds with the Kleen Strip and a little elbow grease but I'm pleased with the outcome.

I went the fishing line route, and used Goof Off. Before I used the Goof Off, I took a 1" plastic putty tool, and gently pushed the adheasive off of the truck, then used the Goof Off to get rest of it off. Not a scratch on the truck from this, and looks great!
