I'm sorry to report that I've had power running boards since 2005 and am on my 3rd set. The company that supplies them evidently have issues with the deployment mechanisms. When they retract they start clicking like they have nylon gears that are slipping or something. Not sure what's inside of them. But, the dealerships been great at replacing them with new and improved models. I guess others have had the same issues. I'll let you know how this set lasts.

I wish I knew. I have my new ones on now. They work great. The pads are a different design so I'm not sure if it's the same manufacturer or not. |

There are only two companies I know of that make power retracting running boards are AMP/Bestop and Kodiak.

After checking out some pics of the different steps online, it looks like the Mopar steps are made by AMP Research.

Just installed a set of the Amp Powersteps over the weekend on my 09. No drilling, no plastic gears, everything was very high quality. All the wiring is done under the hood and very easy to do. They work slick and can't even be seen when in the up position. With the $200 AMP rebate thay had going on, paid $1029.99.

i have amp powersteps and they have been working great for 3 years and thats with over 3oo pounds stepping on them.

any one have a good pic of these installed on a ram? my wife has the on her 07 Tahoe and they curve down with the body, they look good. i haven't seen any on a ram. thanks

This is on an 09. I think the previous gen trucks are very similar other than the mounting brackets are different. You really don't notice them from the side unless you get down low and look for them.

Did you ever find out what brand the first ones were? The AMPs seem to be trouble free for the most part from reading the various forums. They sure don't have nylon gears as mentioned in your previous post.
It is funny to see the look on some peoples faces. I went for ice cream and overheard a lady tell her husband that she swore that truck had steps a minute ago. She was dumbfounded as to what happened to them.  2009 Dodge Ram 1500 QC Sport 4X4 Hemi |
