Well-

After loving the way my new box sounded with my 10's installed, I took a short drive today and my amp was toast. It keeps blowing the two 20 amp fuses. I tried another amp just to ensure my wiring was good to go. No problems with it. So...now that I am used to the big system, I can't go back. I need to find another AMP that will fit behind my box like the old Kenwood. I need something that is less that 9.5" in depth. Preferably with the inputs and attachments on the sides. Something reasonable in price. My Kenwood was a 600 Watt, and worked well for what I needed. Any suggestions?

Thanks-

Ryan

Sppb-

Not the greatest woofers, but I have a set of Powerbass 10" in it right now. I am not even certain on the single or dual, but I am sure they are 4 OHM, as I have only seen PB in 4 ohm. They were not real expensive, I bought them a few years ago in a box for $200.00 from a local audio shop. The 600 watt Kenwood amp did really well with them. I imagine they are between 300-550 watt peak RMS style speakers. Should I stay up in the 600-700 watt range for the amp? I am told that under powering woofers is worse than over powering?

Thanks-

Ryan

Don't underestimate the Powerbass woofers i have seen them outperform other brands in a way that the store had to take them out of the demo room or they wouldn't sell anything else.
Now wee need to know the coil configuration of does woofers or the model number, so wee can find the proper amp for them, or it might be just another amp up in smoke, it would really help if you can get one out of the box
Was the Kenwood amp a 2, 4 or 1 chanel?

The Kenwood was a two channel 600 watt. It was over 6 years old. I was at a store today, and almost picked up an Infinity REF1600A. They called it a "Mono" 600 watt. THe guys suggested that since it was digital, the wattage was a much truer designation. Told me that I would be very pleased if I ram my two tens bridged from that amp. What do you think?

if it fits your application yes the 1 Chanel class D line from Infinity seem to be pretty solid and more efficient than a 2 channel for the subs

And the REF1600A will have plenty for both tens? The reason I am sort of leaning towards it, is that it fits dimentionally where I had my old amp. I just want to make sure it is enough power.
I really appreciate all your help. Do you sell audio equipment?

Sppb-

Sorry. That AMP is rated 400 watts RMS @ 4 ohms, and 600 watts RMS @ 2 ohms. Still think it is a good choice??

Also....MONO amps are the best choice for powering twin subs? THat was a question a friend of mine brought up. You said they are more efficient??

Thanks again-

that is why we need to know the woofers coil configuration to match the amp to them, if they are single 4 ohm coils then connected in parallel you have a final load of 2 ohm perfect for that amp
yes digital amps produce more power with less current.
this web site has a lot of usefull info you can use http://www.bcae1.com/

I finally had a chance to take one of my subs out for you and take a look. They are Powerbass model PB-B105Dv.2. I looked them up and they are 4 ohm, dual voice coil 10" subs. The rating on the back of the speakers themselves states " 250 watts RMS, 350 watts peak". SO....what do I need to look for in an amp? 600 watt minimum? Mono or two channel?

Again...I really appreciate the help. I cannot seem to get anything from these local stores!

OK so that Infinity is not a good choice, you need a class D amp stable at 1 ohm.
to stay under 9.5" you don't have allot of choices but here's one.
http://cgi.ebay.com/PLANET-AUD...7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50
this one is a good amp too.

Of the two which would be your preference? I looked up Audio Planet, there is another one on Ebay which is new, but it is 900 watt as opposed to the 950 watt model. It is only $10.00 more so I was looking into it. It is 350W X 1 RMS @ 4 ohms.

Well...I did it. I went ahead and ordered the Planet Audio you suggested. I will let you know when I get it.
I did some more looking up, and just decided to get it on order.

I'll keep you posted!

Thanks again for all your help.

Again.... I cannot thank you enough for the advice. I am confident that it will work out great. Too bad it is in California! ( Another week of treble.) It wouldn't be so bad if the rain would stop and I could ride the Busa until the amp gets here.

When it arrives.....Should I run one set of speaker wires from the amp, and connect the speakers in series in the box? That was how my other amp was set up. I never knew if that was the best way to wire it or not, but it worked.
