You have my taste....Alpine and Kicker. That is the same route I went. haven't done the sub yet. I want the Hot-box center console box. Had it in my 03. Now I wish I had kept it. I loved it with a Kicker CVR 12". That is what I want again....

That's one way to do it! What are the demensions to that beast?

I just got done building one for my truck. It's essentially a Hotbox come to find out. It sounds pretty good. I used a Klipsch SUB-10 driver. It's not finished yet, I still need to wrap it. I have the vinyl, just need matching carpet now.

Something to think about for cost savings...you can go with a 10" and get about the same performance. The 10" can use that box space better than a 12". Going to a 12" in that small of a box doesn't get ya much. Food for thought, anyway.

I figured you would chime in on that...lol. I don't know really why I like 12's. I have never had a 10 I guess. It always just seemed to me like you get more low end out of a 12 than some of my buddies did even with a couple 10's. I suppose that is one idea I have always had. Not sure it's right. Cost isn't really that big of an issue really. The box is the same cost regardless, and a 12" CVR I can get for $80 so I can't imagine a 10" is a whole lot cheaper. If it was a $300 sub and a 10" was $150, then I would probably jump on it. I was real happy with the 12 I had in my last one, so I guess I am a creature of habit. That's all I got for ya...lol. Big Grin

Ok, 12's and 10's misconception here, Its not what everyone thinks. Its about cone displacement that people like 12's, its the best balance of moving alot of air for low end response and the sub can move pretty quick vs a 10 hits quicker and is more responsive but moves less air if both subs have the same max excursion. Thats why a 12 with .60 excursion times the cone diameter = 7.2 is close to 2 10's moving .385 x 10" x 2 =7.5 always look at xmax when buying and woofer, thats where the $ is at guys, thats why the jl w7 woofer is so high dollar and requires the airspace it does. The center console box with 2 -12's or 3-10's with a rear facing port, all downfire woofers is a awesome box for any of these trucks, its nasty loud and will make alarms go off, and you can feel the music!

The money is in the motor, not the suspension. :B Xmax (excursion) is only one of many factor to look at when it comes to choosing the correct woofer. Moving mass and the resonant frequency of the driver are also as important. Prob is getting that kind of parameters (T/S parameters) from a manufacturer.

While a typical theory suggests, and many applications support, a 12" goes lower than a 10", that is not always the reality. Sometimes it can only be proven by measuring equipment and not distinguishable by ear.

I do prefer the sound of a sealed box over a ported any day of the week, but if SPL is what you're after, go with a properly tuned ported box.
