I took the door and kick panels off. I found what wires I need to tap into, but what ones are hot and cold?

It doesn't really matter for speakers right? Just touch the wire and see if the speakers work? Thats what we do, maybe it isn't a good thing. dunno

well I got it working. From my understanding + goes to + and - goes to -. Just trying to find out what wires are + and -. I'm having a small issue and I'm just trying to eliminate possibilities.

radio shack sells cheap digital multimeters. that would be the safest way to determine polarity.

attached one speaker wire to red lead, attach other to black lead, set meter to VDC, turn up radio, does the voltage show +3 to +10 volts DC, or does it show -3 to -10 volts DC?

I was gonna say, there should be wiring diagram on here somewhere because when I bought a RCA jack to wire to speakers off the amp someone posted it. I believe on my 03 there was a wiring color chart on the top of the head unit also for the preamp wires. If it isn't Infinity then it would be a direct match if there was one.

Another way to find out is before you disconnect the factory harness mark which colors are on which side. Then take a small piece of speaker wire and strip all 4 ends back. Take a battery I use c or d cells and touch it to the speaker terminals using the wire you stripped. If the woofer on the speaker moves out that the correct phase. If it moves in it is backwards. The problem with them playing backwards is the the speaker loses bass and it will effect the other speaker on the same channel and it will lose bass too. It may not sound that important on a small speaker but it does.

What hemi guy said. It DOES matter which polarity you use. Go to the stock speakers, strip the wires, touch the c or d battery to the terminals (for no longer than what it takes you to figure out if its pushing out or pulling in *GIGGITY* as you can ruin the speaker).
